...Ahh, that's better. Thanks to ~HasturCTS for the title inspiration.
I constructed this from a modern toran, a couple of cuts, stitches and grommets... and voila!
From start to finish it took about an evening.

Heh, nothing to it but ta do it! I started off by just tearing apart old outfits or other pre-made garments that weren't working for me and bastardizing them into new designs. Wait, I still basically do that.
I'm not really that great of a seamstress, but I can fiddle and tweak stuff until it looks a semblance of how I had hoped it would. I truly think that anyone who puts their mind to it can do just as good if not better... it just takes a bit of time and patience.

Cool--you took apart a toran to make this, didn't you? I just got a few in and started making belts out of them. I don't take them apart, just add ties and tassels...

A friend bought a bunch of these to do just that to, but the full toran as a belt just didn't look right on my shape. Soooo I was playing with it and decided on the corset belt thing to help shape around my big ol' hips, which left that band so I decided to turn that into a matching top. It all just sort of came together, it was pretty cool.

The toran belts really only look good if you put a couple of darts in the top to shape it properly, but that's a fairly simple matter. I haven't tried the corset belt style for tribal (used to make regular corsets a lot tho), I would think they'd ride up on me. One of these days...
Anyway, the set turned out really nice!

FANTASTIC tribal piece. Now you need the face makeup on the chin an on the cheeks around the eyes.
I love the color. My favorite part is the bodice, but I'm really loving the corset ties on the belt.

Enchanting! I love the bold use of red mixed with the sharp contrast of yellow! You don't fire dance in this outfit, do you? I would be afraid of the tassles and ribbons catching on fire!

It seems like red is big this year in belly dance fashion ! I went to my dance school annual show earlier this month and about 4/5 of the girls wore red. (and the costume I am working on is red and orange). Don't let the Bull in ! tee hee
