Description
A Watercolor Sketch Commission for DuskTwilena of her character, Nivalis. It's been a while since I've last drawn a Northern Mothcat, they're so gorgeous! Q_Q I'll take any excuse I can to bring out the salt for some textured backgrounds!Mothcats and all subspecies are owned by floramisa .

Yeah! If you look in the background, you can see that it's splotchy - laying down salt on the watercolor as it's drying will absorb the water/pigment to produce that texture

I don't like using watercolor to paint and usually dislike them in general, but you use them so well qOq when done right, watercolor paint makes amazing textures :0

Thank you so much! oAo! That's definitely one of the reasons I like watercolor, as finicky as they are, you can do things that you just... can't reproduce with acrylic and oils, and it makes for some interesting pieces!

aaah what a pretty kitty, and the salt texture in the background is perfect, it looks like frost <3 and you did an amazing job on those markings, especially in watercolor ??? the control, it is impressive

Ahhh I'm super late on this, but thank you so much! ;v; I'm glad you like how the markings turned out, you can see that they smudged/uneven a bit in places when I tried to add more pigment to areas that were partially dry, but other than that, it was pretty smooth!

aaaaaaahhhhhh so lovely! I've never mastered the watercolor/salt technique, I don't know what's wrong with me. the colors you used here are soooo lovely though, the subtle purples amidst the blues give it a really wintry feel :')

Oh! Have you tried waiting for it to dry a bit before putting the salt on? I will admit that it's always a bit of a... mmm... mystery how it's going to come out for me, I kind of just sprinkle some on and hope for the best! :3c;;;;
I am so glad you like it! Blendy backgrounds are the best~

Man you did an AMAZING JOB oh her markings, and the background looks lovely! I always have such a hard time with mostly-monochromatic designs in traditional media, so I am IMPRESSED!

AH, thank you! I like how the markings came out as well ;v; I knew they would be fun to watercolor! I think I have a lot of different blues as well, so that definitely helped...

Very pretty. I use to do some watercolors back in middle school. But for some reason, I could never get mine to come out the way I imagined them to be.

Thank you! It's definitely a painting style that takes patience and planning, not least because you can't erase or paint over mistakes... I hope you pick it back up sometime!
