Description
I’m working on a doujinshi but rather than just drawing all of it now I’m doing some references first and getting more practice that I desperately need. This is a reference I made for myself for when I actually start drawing it all out.
Chapter Title: Night of the Living Espada 1
Major Players:
Shūhei Hisagi (Hollowfied)
Mayuri Kurotsuchi (Clone, Mayuri No.5)
Kensei Muguruma
Kaname Tōsen (Zombified-Masked, Hollowfied)
The chapter starts off with Kensei fighting a losing battle against Hisagi who has Hollowfied.
Kensei is having a tough time not just because of how powerful the hollowfication has made Hisagi but also due to the fact that his own Hollow powers have been causing him a lot of trouble, though he remains in control just enough to keep from becoming a mindless Hollow himself.
One of Mayuri’s clones arrive after being sent out to gather information on the Hollow Sickness that has been spread across Soul Society, along with the now Zombified Tōsen who is a member of Mayuri’s own “Espada”
Though Kensei is distrusting of Mayuri and disgusted by what the mad scientist had done with the former captain Tōsen he is in no position to deny help and let’s Tōsen take over while he recovers.
Mayuri is shocked at the amount of pain and negative emotion that can be heard in Hollow Hisagi’s screams, remarking that out of the thousands of souls he has ripped apart and tortured he has never felt such pain and wonders if maybe Hisagi was meant to be a hollow all along.
Kensei accuses Mayuri of being monster for having brought Tousen to fight Hisagi specifically, to which Mayuri confirms that while attempting to enslave him was purely motivated by his own self interests and curiosity he DID want to see how two hollow which had shared a strong bond in life would react to one another to which Kensei takes a very serious tone and tells him not to call Hisagi a Hollow.
The fight goes on for awhile and Tōsen is forced to use Resurreccion which looks nearly identical to his old one but has been modified to keep its eyes closed.
Mayuri states that he did this due to the fact that Tōsen had been blind for most of his life and although he might be able to learn to fight with his eyes open it could take hundreds of years for him to get as good as he is blind.
Despite how powerful Mayuri has made Tōsen the fight is still fairly even. Mayuri wonders if this is because the process of Hollowfication causes a Shinigami to lose all inhibitions and fears and allows them to go all out without worrying about injuring themself or others, as if becoming a Hollow unlocks the full potential of a Shinigami.
The fight ends with Kensei breaking Hisagi’s mask which causes him to revert to normal, revealing that the only way to save the Hollowfied Gotei 13 is to destroy their masks.
Despite being worn out as soon as Hisagi comes to his senses and sees what has become of his former captain Tōsen he launches himself at Mayuri’s clone ready to kill but Kensei blocks him and gets him to stop until after the conflict is over, noting that there are hundreds of their fellow Shinigami who need their help.
