Description "...I will continue to fight and save innocent lives. The way I've done so before, as a Red Lantern."

Yes yes...quite unexpected for me to draw art for Green Lantern the Animated Series. But I did give hints about me getting into that show. It needed to be done though, the show is so good that it inspired me to create...well, this. It's a tragedy that the show was cancelled only after one season, with such a cliffhanger ending... I'm a huge sci-fi or space fiction/fantasy cartoon/film fan btw, just thought I'd let that out there. Shows like GLTAS, Transformers (Prime and Armada are my favorites), and Star Wars called out to me because of this too.

There are many awesome videos on youtube about GLTAS btw. If you want to see what I gathered up, please send me a note and I will think about sharing it with you.

As for my picture above, which has very high Razaya (aka the best tragic romance on a universal scale in fiction to date) connotations...well let's just say one idea in particular came to mind while drawing and coloring it. This idea will contain SPOILERS, so if you have not watched the show yet, I suggest not reading any further. Especially because one day I might in fact type up a sequel story based around this idea. I wanted to draw Razer with his 'light claws' energy construct, but in a more 'resting' position instead of active one. A manner in which it looks like he's about to strike something or someone with complete raging animosity. Aya was actually added later on as a symbolic way to show how much of an effect she still has on how he is currently, even though she'd prefer he not remain really angry anymore. Which is why she is crying because she wants him to move on and not mourn for her. Let me explain why I created this with Razer still remaining a Red Lantern and not changing into a Blue Lantern...well yet at least.

Red Lantern are beings who become so full of hate and rage after they have faced a great tragedy in their life during a time when they still remained innocent and/or morally sound, but as Red Lanterns they become beings who intend to inflict 'righteous vengeance' onto others they see as evil and deserving. They are not villains...but it's only after they accept the red ring of Rage that they become beings overflowing with hatred and rage that the only thing they seek is revenge and brutality against those who have wronged them. Razer is no exception to the rule, really, because he started out exactly the same. It's how he ends up which will determine how unique he will be. The red lanterns of the GL comics are rampaging beasts you never want to mess with, but the red lanterns in the show are no walk in the park either, as Razer has proved many times.

So, with saying all that, here's how my idea goes...in the form of a lengthy paragraph. What if Razer's rage has not left him totally...because he realized that it would be more useful than what he originally thought? Even though Aya, who may or may not actually be 'dead', would not approve of. Because she would eventually want him to be healed on the inside, with or without her. Even after all the sorrow they went through together. What if he is able to have both Rage and Hope at the same time, both staying strong within him and using his red ring during some circumstances but the blue ring during other ones? I would call that having raging hope. I mean...it's not the first time we have seen a two lantern hybrid (Guy Gardner from the comics, as one great example). Of course at first...Razer would try to reject the blue ring because he does not really see himself as worthy to be a Blue Lantern (with him still holding onto his rage, and he feels to blame for having the universe face an almost certain death indirectly, thus not considering himself an actual 'hero' in his mind because he cannot forgive himself for what almost happened and for who he lost). Even though he would not admit that he is one of the universe's rare exceptions, in that he could use the red ring at times when he is pissed and its energy would not become dormant from the blue ring. On the bad flip side, he would be a very conflicted...alien man especially after what happened to Aya and blaming himself for what happened to her, and the universe too... What will happen to him during the life teaching journeys he would take alone after her unfortunate 'demise' would make him walk on that fine line between justice and brutality. On his journeys, he might further learn the nasty truth behind the extent of which other alien beings would go to get what they want, attaining more power out of inflicting tragedy on others, even on their own kind. Which will further prove to him that Rage is still a very necessary emotion in a universe so chaotic and cold, and it helps him fight against injustice. If there's one major thing he learned during his space traveling days with his two Green Lantern pals...it's that evil and spite will remain so long as tragedy keeps happening. And he would do whatever it took to help the innocent before any further tragedy happened to them. That's why I feel as if he was half holding back his despair and angst from Hal and Kilowog during the finale. He sort of knew these kind of life lessons even before meeting the GLs, who probably thought they were successful with softening him up but would soon be proven wrong once they hear about what he's been doing while on other worlds alone. That he would be doing more than just trying to find Aya again... He himself dealt with a major loss more than once...and knew that justice through the form of vengeance sometimes was necessary to teach victimizers a lesson. Green Lanterns punish criminals by jailing them...but Red Lanterns, like Razer himself, have much more brutal means of punishing evil. Usually fatal means. How far will Razer go to deal justice? Would he step over the moral line and go the route he want before, or decide a more GL way of dealing with things like he has done throughout the show? And will things go so horribly wrong and unfortunate the way which Razer and his crew pals don't expect? Well...it's up to each one of us to view how he will end up how we chose, really.

I understand the show creators had different intentions in mind for Razer's character development during the cancelled season 2 and beyond, but this is all MY take on his story after the season 1 finale. And with saying that...I'd appreciate it if the ideas I have planned would not be used by others, should I chose to reveal them at all.

Yes...one of the few great CGI series of the 2010s...with a deep story and developed characters...and they went ahead and cancelled it. Funny that I'm getting a comment about it again now, I just rewatched this show two days ago...

*sighs sadly*
The comic spin-off series might be cool, but it just not the same.

Same... It was wrongfully cancelled due to low toy sales. Damn corporate greed is to blame for that.

Same here... This show is so underrated, it's not even funny...

(And yet we have so many crap animes out there that get HEAVILY promoted, yet they're overrated pieces of crap )

Lol...And Attack on Titan, I think too. I mean...wtf is up with that show? It makes me cringe something awful. So does DBZ, I don't care how popular it is, it should also just stop and die.

I do not agree with DBZ, I'm a die heart fan and love the crap out of it. But I don't understand the Attack on Titan thing, its pretty good and I hear the manga it's even close to ending.

Well sorry, but I guess we all have our...tastes. I just think they're so overrated and do not need to be so highly praised. I know what the whole DBZ craze is all about...I used to watch it when I was so little when it was on toonami. But now I see it for what it really is. As for attack on Titan...I won't even bother touching it because it makes me cringe and from the few scenes I saw it has the typical over exaggerated acting that a usual shonen anime has. I like only FMA03 because it's not a shallow baseless shonen, it has depth and great character progression without going over the top.

Also, I don't care how faithful a show is to the original source or its manga. What I'm looking for is great depth, character development and lack of typical anime storytelling exaggeration. And also no cringeworthy things either. This is why I prefer way more western animations and stories than I ever did much anime.

Like you said, we all have our own tastes. Me personally I think the FMA03 isn't that good. I like the remake a lot better because it had clearer motives for the characters and showed more of the original thoughts and plan for it from the manga.

My FMA Pride!Ed story is heavily inspired by FMA03 btw, with some elements seen in Brotherhood, but I'm sure it's something up your alley of liking. It's still going to be (or pretty much IS already) very graphic, suspenseful, horrifying, brutal, and bloody throughout lots of scenes, so be prepared for that if you ever want to read it or see much of the rest of my art. It has an even darker mood than FMA03 too, and Pride is not too OP...well yet anyways. But there's a catch to his powers that he attains late on...so that he does not seem like a typical over powered character. Because I'm of the belief that with a tragic character like him, there's always gotta be a price to pay to have such power.

It only has two chapters up so far, but it's very LONG and it's starting off with right after Pride is 'born'

And also...the Green Lantern show is also loosely based on the comics as well, and yet I would understand why many prefer that show to the comics. And why they won't bother getting into the GL comics because of how long as fuck the whole series is. I like both the show and comics though, but I think I'm one of those rare cases who like both versions of this same universe.

Like I said, I don't care how faithful a show is to its comic and I don't expect most people to care either 'shrug'. People who usually use the argument of 'not faithful to original source' are, well...not seeing shows for the right or practical reasons. Many people see shows and movies because they don't have more time to read thousands of pages of manga/comics/books, but I understand that not all the shows and movies adapted from these sources are better than the original source. So I completely understand where they come from, but it all depends on what one prefers at the end of the day and their reasons why. What I care about most is the depth of the story. I think 03 was very clear with its characters, it's just that it had more suspense which is why many people prefer the shonen version of FMA we know of as brotherhood. I see the first show as having a better mood and storytelling overall, and at many points being better than the manga it is loosely based on, but that's my own preference and I understand if others prefer 03 for similar reasons I prefer it. It's as you repeated, different tastes. Or different strokes for different folks.

I see.  Yea I understand if people sometimes confuse between the two (DC and Marvel), or don't mention one and mention only the other, so it's fine. They're both very similar in many ways, so I get it.

Not just that, but I dont like DC really. Not as good as Marvel really in my eyes

ArrogantVengeance In reply to GoldenHeroMC [2017-05-21 04:30:43 +0000 UTC]

Why would you say that it's not as good as Marvel? Can you explain your points about that?

I just like some things from both. But my main likes from them are Green Lantern and Spiderman.

GoldenHeroMC In reply to ArrogantVengeance [2017-05-22 03:04:54 +0000 UTC]

Well, I just feel as if DC is trying to copy on Marvel right now. Like the Superman Vs. Batman was to grab money from the Avengers coming out with this large plan for the Infinity Wars. I also feel as if some of the heroes aren't as special as the ones in Marvel, Marvel has a lot of diversaty in their heroes and villains. But that doesn't mean DC doesn't ether. I just feel like DC is copying Marvel right now and aren't trying their best to hide it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ArrogantVengeance In reply to GoldenHeroMC [2017-05-22 08:57:25 +0000 UTC]

I don't know, I see diversity from both these companies, but you have the right to belive if they don't. I see Green Lantern as one of their original and best...'universes', personally. As for the movies...as I said, DC should mainly stick to making animations (both shows and movies alike). DC has let many people down with their live action movies.

I don't know, I just don't see it... If they do, it's not always. Their older series did not cosplay Marvel at all. Maybe Justice League does, yea, but not their older, single character stories.
