Imping feathers? What's that supposed to mean?
An imp is a mischievous little sprite, isn't it?

Imping, short for implanting, is a technique for replacing damaged wing or tailfeathers in a bird with donor feathers, as they don't regrow immediately. In real life it's used to allow a bird to be rehabbed more quickly.

Ah cool!
Yeah, actually that even came up in the Redwall story "Mattimeo" where Sister May fixed Stryk Redkite's wing using some suitably lengthed tail-feathers to replace a couple of missing pinions, along with some splints, bandage and pine-resin (a most excellent natural glue in the world of Mossflower)
