Description
Another apocalyptic piece. This was inspired by Robert Swindells' book "Brother in the Land", a children's book set after a nuclear holocaust. I aimed to make the sky look poisonous and deadly in this picture. At one point the narrator describes the damaged ozone layer, saying: "The bombs had done something to the atmosphere so that the sun came up in a sort of fiery haze and burned behind it all day like a big fuzzy ball." Acrylic on canvas.Related content

What talent! I wish it was available for sale. If I had it displayed, I think it might spark interest and conversation about the topic that it is really about without being overly blatant about the topic. I would be able to say that I read what the artist said about it. I can't do that by buying from a store at the mall. Amazing vision.

Excellent work. The colours and tone are spot on for the subject matter. The sky is great!

Thank you. I used an airbrush for the haze.

Thanks. The ruins in the picture are about twenty miles from the explosion. That reddish horizon is where the central business district used to be.

Thanks. Originally the sky looked different. More like a pleasant sunset. But then I thought it looked too pleasant and decided to make it look more toxic.

It is quite theraputic. Each brick was just one or two brushstrokes.
