Description
Hah! Such a great title, right?Ok, gosh. This was a commission done for Maeris , who, might I say, was absolutely superb with all her patience. Kudos to you, darling.
She wanted a horse, canter pirouette in a puddle of gasoline and ringed by fire, as if the horse started it. But, then she gave me artistic freedom and this is what happened.
This was my very first time ever working with fire. Holy cow! I used gobs and gobs of layers of it and eventually it began to click into place. I tried a regular mane, and nah, scrapped it. Did a fire tail, and nah, scrapped it, but that one was Joshs call. I drove that man nuts asking him to come look at it and tell me what he thought, what looked wrong, etc. By the end of tonight he'd sit on the couch and stare at me without moving. LOL.
Sorry Josh.
Aaah, lets see. Obviously, the mane and tail were replaced. I lifted and curved the neck and brought the head in. Replaced the ears, opened the jaw and painted in some teeth, painted over the eye. I tilted the horse back, too, and altered/drew up/in the forelegs as well to add some dramatics, and give an overall pissed feeling, since that's what Maeris wanted.
And lots of other stuff, but I'll let you guys look if you want and try to figure it out.
Special thanks to devils-horizon and Sylvanestra , because I annoyed the crap out of them too with demands for opinions and critiques along the way. Thank you too, to devils-horizon for the playlist that got me through this picture!

wow well done my friend superb work however i am curious as to why the fire lord is a horse when there are other animals that seem to fit the flare of fire better

Wow, your use of fire is great. I don't think I could even do that good on my first time. Everything flows, love your style. It rocks.

Brilliant concept. I can't decide if the fire looks more like paint or real fire.

Score on that one then! I had no idea what I was doing with the fire when I started the picture as I'd never worked with it before. Once I got the hang of it though, it wasn't too hard.
Thank you for the compliment!

Most incredible. For your first time at fire, you really made some excellent results. Not sure how the 40 layers work to make that, but I am not that advanced in Photoshop. I looked at your progression and the flames are what makes your painting alive! All that work and layers certainly did you justice.

Thank you! Forty layers went into sculpting the fire and flames. I used half a dozen pictures, if I remember correctly, for all of the fire in the picture. I did a lot of free transforming to meld it, bend it, shape it and warp it.
Thank you so much!

Oh, ~Maeris was an absolute DARLING through the entire commissioning process. She was always on the ball, had no problem with payments, and gave me a big creative rein. I'd work with her again any day of the week, commissioned or no.
Thank you so much for the compliments to the picture! I had no idea what I was doing with fire when I started out, but it wasn't too hard once I got the hang of it.

She's so lucky. Your work makes me cry it's so lovely.
i never have the bravery or the improvisation skills to do something like that. I'm hideously lazy.
And I look forward to more of your work - tissues at hand!
