Hah! Such a great title, right?
Ok, gosh. This was a commission done for Maeris , who, might I say, was absolutely superb with all her patience. Kudos to you, darling.
She wanted a horse, canter pirouette in a puddle of gasoline and ringed by fire, as if the horse started it. But, then she gave me artistic freedom and this is what happened.
This was my very first time ever working with fire. Holy cow! I used gobs and gobs of layers of it and eventually it began to click into place. I tried a regular mane, and nah, scrapped it. Did a fire tail, and nah, scrapped it, but that one was Joshs call. I drove that man nuts asking him to come look at it and tell me what he thought, what looked wrong, etc. By the end of tonight he'd sit on the couch and stare at me without moving. LOL.

Aaah, lets see. Obviously, the mane and tail were replaced. I lifted and curved the neck and brought the head in. Replaced the ears, opened the jaw and painted in some teeth, painted over the eye. I tilted the horse back, too, and altered/drew up/in the forelegs as well to add some dramatics, and give an overall pissed feeling, since that's what Maeris wanted.
And lots of other stuff, but I'll let you guys look if you want and try to figure it out.

Holy cow, my Gods.
This is absolutly amazing. The position I like most of all. I like how you made it realistic, yet also with a twist of fantasy with the fire and such.
The eye, somehow, seems lifeless, like it should be bigger to match the open mouth's emotion.
I love the fire that climbs up the hind legs, absolutly awesome! :]
The front legs could use more shape.

The eye wasn't altered - it's the original size, and in my opinion enlargening it would have made it look unnatural and awkward. Yes, the fiery horse is unnatural, but the proportions aren't.
Also, please, give me an idea of what you mean by more shape with the front legs. How exactly should they be more shapely, so I can understand your opinion better?

What I mean is the leg bone to be indented in more, the knee more rounder, and the hooves slightly larger. It's awful hard to explain, I apologize!
I forgot also to mention, your creation was so life-like, at first I wasn't sure if it was a drawing. I thought it was an actual horse, the fire edited onto it. You did an amazing job.

Might I also point out how this piece is in fact 'fake' as in 'non-reality' or 'fantasy' if you can't quite comprehend. To put it quite bluntly, your statement is a little on the 'dumb' side..
I have no quarms about stating that this would indeed be animal cruelty if it was reality.. But what you are looking at here is just artwork, a painting, digital painting of a 'fantasy' scene. Its not real, its a photomanipulation. Fake but beautifully presented.
On the other side of the coin, you can tell that its not a real image... since when did you see a horse with a mane and tail made of fire? Breathing fire from its nostrils and snakes of flame running up its forelegs? Maybe in your sick world of accusing an fantasy artist of 'ANIMAL CRUELTY' there are horses burnt, with flames coming out of thier ears and mouths etc et-bloody-cetera!
But maybe you should take a look around the other pieces of 'equine' artwork in Arrisistable's gallery, before you accuse this unbelievably decent, animal loving artist of the crude injustice of 'animal cruelty'?
I think maybe you need to take a look over your pieces, just incase we might decide you are getting up to 'rock cruelty' with this image >> [link] !!
