I mean, there was a chance for him to get to the light in the split second Snoke was killed, only to instead reject it and go further to the dark. Now he's basically now locked into the war with his estranged mother (unless fate has other ideas for Leia) and Rey, the only person that ever really understood him as part of his payment for it.

What I wonder is what the burden of leading the First Order will do. I mean, in theory heβs now forced to have to look out for everyone under his command, whereas before he only commanded the Knights of Ren. He has never had to shoulder such immense responsibility before.

Not to mention he'd have to watch his back in case anyone tries to kill him. (like Hux)
In fact, I have a feeling he might go mad with power, and some within the first order begin to worry or think he's lost it.

And of course they'll beat the First Order. It's Star Wars, and it was always about good triumph over evil!
(The end of Revenge of the Sith says over wise, but it does end with Luke and Leia being born, which means that not all is lost, and there is indeed hope to defeat the evil)

It does seem to me the Sequel trilogy is showing that things are more complex than they were believed to be, but TLJ did end with a clear message of hope and a way forward.Β So I do think that even with some updates for more modern tastes, it will still be about good triumphing over evil.
