Description I love Feebas so much. I don't care what anyone says; they're adorable.

I wanted to try out a new colouring technique here, and I'm pretty happy with it. My hand isn't though.
I did each little line one by one ;______;

I'd really like some feedback on this, namely the colouring.
Planning to do Milotic next, so some pointers on how to improve this technique would be great!

Cheers!
~Arsenic.

Feebas belongs to Pokemon and its creators.
Art belongs to me.

This seems like it should be in a Pokemon Guide Book... Have you ever considered sending your art to Nintendo? : o I did once, when I was ten... XDD

The technique is beautiful... I would suggest, to spare your hand the pain, trying to (if you use Photoshop) define a pattern out of the hand-drawn lines... Then, you could simply fill in the lines as they are here, and change the color through the "Color Variations" option. It may work... I hope that doesn't sound like novice advice, though. ^^U

Good luck~!

Haha thank you xD

But no, I don't use PS, as I can't afford it
I use Paint Tool SAI. I tried to cheat and use a mix of the textures and screentones I've collected for it, but it just wasn't doing it for me lol

I really like the outcome of doing it by hand, but oh my goodness it took forever!

XD Well, I suppose it would take forever, that way... Have you ever taken a class in pen and ink? It's my favorite medium, and it does focus heavily upon individual lines developing larger effects, really... It may help you find an easier way to draw the look you're aiming for.

Oh, and if you want PS, try buying a Bamboo Tablet; they come with PS Elements 7 for free, now. The tablet itself is $95, I believe... Yet I understand if that is a lot, as well. ^^U I don't make nearly that amount in my daily life, just yet.

Maybe when my tablet dies. I don't really like the feel of the Bamboos. They're really chunky for my liking.

As for art classes, I've only taken one back several years ago.
I'm very ill and can't really go out much

I'm trying to draw more in ink to help with my stroke confidence [I erase way too much], but it's still something I'm trying to get used to...

Do you know of any books or anything online that could help with pen and ink?

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that you're ill... ; - ; Do feel better.

As for the tablet, I agree... Bamboo isn't my favorite. My sister bought it for herself and I borrow the software with my own tablet~. XD

Hmm... Well, a book is something I'm not sure of... Yet I would advise that you watch videos of Pen and Inkists, rather than buy a book. I learned by seeing it done and doing it, not by reading; it's far easier that way, for some reason. The others in the class I took agreed with this, too. It's a very tactile sort of medium, if that makes sense... The texture of doing it is far different than a smooth pastel, or a liquid paint. You really do have to feel it, if you will... I hope that makes sense. ^^U

Yeah that makes sense haha

Would you recommend a certain style or brand of pen?

I have a Pitt Artist Pen I just bought a couple weeks ago, but its very marker-like.

I like very inky pens that flow like paint, but I've only used them for writing...

Oh, the fountain pens, or the ones you use for writing, are exactly what you'll need. : ) They will flow like paint, yet they'll sketch in a very stiff manner, so to speak.

The brand I use is called "Pilot", and I buy the finest tip they make: ".38 mm", which is ridiculously small. XD It's very helpful, and you can refill the ink inside them... A new pack is about $7, which is noticeably cheaper than others. If you can't find the refills, you can always buy them online, yet make sure they are ".38 mm". They should look like this: [link]

Other than that, I would use a quill, or at least an inking pen with nibs. No, I'm not joking... XD A company called "AM" sells quills that come with eight or so "nibs", which are the detachable, sharp tools used for writing and sketching with the quills. You can order the nibs online, here: [link]

The quill, however, you may need to look for... I have no idea where my mother got me mine, for Christmas... Yet Michaels also sells simple inking pens. If you tell them you're looking for pen and ink supplies, they'll explain it better than I can. ^^U

Good luck~!

Oh, thank you so much (:

We have a HobbyLobby here as well, but there were SO many different pens and inks x.x I had no idea where to start lol

I've also heard horror stories about beginners with nibs x_x
I'm not ready for that commitment lol

Oh, really? XD That sounds scary... I suppose I'm lucky, then. Be careful, then.

I'm glad to have helped~.
