Florian has been drawn before but Merrick is new to DA.

Recap: Florian is Hie's son who died before her thus going to soul society before becoming a soul reaper in order to find his mom to meet her. (He doesn't know she became an arrancar)

Merrick is a member of the quincy army that invades Soul Society. He is more sailor based and uses arrows that look more like harpoons and anchors. He is apart of a 3 man team; him, Jaffe and their leader Hyde.

The quincy group kidnaps Florian during the invasion in order to lure Hie out and ambush her. while being held captive Florian is raped by Hyde who is trying to get Hie as angry and uncontrollable as possible when she finds them. Merrick and Jaffe don't agree with this and turn on their leader. During their rebel against Hyde and Yhwach Merrick develops feelings for Florian which is a little too late as they will not be getting together...
