Description
I believe that we are looking at the Schreckhorn here with the Aletsch glacier florwing down from the Jungfrau. You can see the glacier blocks in the right corner of this photo--this is where the close-ups of the glacier were taken.Related content

You are welcome! We also have beauty here, but I mean, not mountains and everything. I have always loved Switzerland and Austria for that.

Of course, there is beauty to be found everywhere, it's just a different kind of beauty. Which is what makes traveling so interesting! So while I am here, I try to take the opportunity when it comes to visit and travel and photograph because one never knows when one has to move on.

wonderful scenery again. This shot has the look of a place that is a complete wilderness. I wonder is it an illusion? Did you hike here or is there a ski lift behind the camera?

Hike? Not quite, that's a glacier out there. This is the top of the Jungfraujoch--above Interlaken, Switzerland. this is the highest railway station in Europe. So yes, there is, basically, a slightly more than a ski lift behind me. This was taken in October and I can assure you, it was coooold up there! On the way down the mountain we peeled of our layers and ended up in short sleeves again. The Swiss don't mess around with their mountains when it comes to making them accessible. Expensive trip, but so worth it. There's an entire "station" up here with 2 restaurants, an ice palace with ice sculptures, the possible to ski and sled of course, and various other activities. But that being said, it's pretty well-contained. you can't wonder off too far as anyway you go it's either down or onto the glacier (not recommended). thanks so much for your comment and for looking!!

Ah yes.....this sounds familiar. A few places like that in France. I got a ski lift up to a glacier in the French Alps Haha I like how you seemed surprised when I asked if you hiked up there.....some would

Actually "hiking" wouldn't be possible, it would definitely be mountain/glacier climbing with ropes, crampons and ice picks.Β

From about half way up. That glacier is really quite something. I've got photos of it somewhere I'll try to dig up. How the Swiss every got that railway track laid is something. It's a cog wheel. But then some of the Swiss engineering feats are really mind-boggling--especially when you consider how long ago they were accomplished! Even by rail it takes quite a while. Here's a link to check out.Β www.jungfrau.ch/en/quick-navigβ¦

ah yes I see. 3400m is about the same height of the glacier that I skied down from in France

Thank you so much! Up there with the grandeur of a vista like this on front of you, one feels quite small and insignificant.

Thank you, it's pretty hard to beat, I agree. There is something about being on top of a mountain that is exhilarating!

Then I wish it for you! Actually, here in Switzerland, it's a lot easier than you might think. We actually took the train up to this point--the highest train station in Europe! But there are lots of telecabines and cable cars, etc that get one up high, and then one can hike a bit more or not, depending on where and weather conditions. Keep your dream and when you find it one day, you will never forget the experience. In the meantime, have a look in my gallery for some more mountain-top shots. I'll be so happy to share my experiences with you until you can find your own!
