I really debated on whether Or not I should post this. This represents something I'm very proud of whil also something I'm very ashamed of.I had the opportunity to work on a comic book. The creator loved my stuff and I loved his writing. It would have been a dream job. But, like most important events that come my way, Life has to step in and smack me down hard.
I was working on the book, when my day job interferred and I got sucked into a long grueling trial. When I am in trial, I seriosuly work 13-20 hours a day. I have time for nothing else. So I didn't have time to finish the pages. I blew a perfectly good oportunity.
This is one of the reasons I started my own company. So I can work on my own timetable, and not have to worry about missing deadlines I can't make.
So that is my sob story. I am an idiot. But I really love the way she came out. Sigh oh well.

Sorry to hear about that. But she looks really good, something to be proud of. My day job is like that too, doesn't allow me to draw as much as I would want. Especially when interest rates are down, then I'm freaking busy.

Thank you. I am actually really proud of her. I think out of all the line art I've done, I think she looks the most solid all around.
It sucks when real life interferes with the things that you enjoy, doesn't it. But it is something we all must live with.

I don't like the looks of this. It seems like a trap. Ogle her sexy body and skimpy outfit and she clobbers you with her wrench.

Your job sounds like a bit of a nightmare...
Do you think you would find working as a professional artist better for you than your current job? Like if you got less money, but your doing something less stressful and more enjoyable?

I would take doing art for less money. I'm not making that much now anyway. But It's in my blood and something I've been wanting to do since I was a kid.

It's such a balancing act. In one hand, I do like that I can afford to do the things I love. But Creatively, I feel like I'm fading. And I need to make a big push to get into the comic world before I lose it totally. Probably alittle paranoid here.

I think I understand what you mean.. I was working full time for a few years in Glasgow University.. and I was making a reasonable amount of money, but I gave it up so I could go to college to study illustration.. before I got too old or lost my ability to draw and I'd never make my goal of working in art/comics.
Not doing too well financially now, since its costing me so much money just to got to college.. Fees, travel and all that. I feel like I'm mabey paying my dues.. before making the 'big time'.
I'd be a big dissapointed, to say the least, if nothing came of it.
Don't think you've got much to worry about tho buddy, your works excellent!

Thank you. I'm sure there are many people out there that would tend to disagree with you about my work, but I like what I do. ANd I'm glad you do too.
Going back to school can be tough. I thought about it, but I decided that I learn best from doing.
If I didn't have a family to feed, I would ditch the job and invest all my energy in trying to break in. But I have a family, so they come first. But that is why I've started my own company. So I can do things on myschedule. Once it takes off, I can ditch the day job.

I would like to just learn from doing.. but, I'm a lazy fuck.. college keeps me motivated and stuff.. and I'm in a situation with a lot of other likeminded wanna be artist in the same situation.
Some of the guys in my class are here on DA, I think you already know ~ iamragmar ...hes a great guy.
Can't see why someone would'nt like your work.. I suppose different styles cater to different tastes.. but good art is good art. :s

Part of teh reason why I signed up here was to be on the lookout for talent. I think that the web is a still largely untapped resource for artistic talent. I hope that many DA's will be published through Sosei Studios at some point.

Yeah, I've got the line work all done and stuff.. It's just the photoshop colouring is taking me forever, I'm still relatively new at it.. Seems like a long and dull process at times.
I'm more used to my old school colouring pencils

I know. The part for me that just kills me is laying down the flat colors. But once those are doen, I have such a fun time doing the shading.

I don't think doing the flats are so bad.. especially if you use the magnetic selection tool.. Only takes about an hour that way.
..but its taken me about a week and a half so far to do the shading and stuff.. although I have been experimenting a bit with the shadows and highlight, since I'm still realatively new to the program.
I've been taking Photoshop classes in colege as well.. Quite a lot of fun.

Hmmmmm....magnetic lasso. I just use the polygon lasso. Do you have a seperate layer for lineart also?

I used to use the polygon lasso, but I found that the magnetic one was a lot quicker and accurate to use.. (I use a mouse)
I use a seperate layer for pretty much everything.. Line work, Skin colour, clothes,...
My art trade is about umm.. 85% comptete as so far.. Its probably the best digital colouing work I've done, I think.

It still stings alittle, but I think it was also because I had 2 other close calls in the same year. This was the third and it was just the final straw.

Yeah, sometimes you have to be careful when dealing with your own characters. I've been faced with that problem as well. But I think that being on the recieving end of these problems will help when dealing with outer artists for Sosei Studios.

I've been very suprised to learn how many women actually like my artwork. I thought that most would be offended, but the more and more I talk to people, I found it isn't true. Which is refreshing.
