Also, Turles being trans is 100% only for this AU, because I can and I will do it, and it will not change anything regarding canon Turles. Please do not comment going "but Turles is not trans", I'll just hide those comments as I'm not interested in debating anything. I know he's not trans canonically, this is just a personal headcanon.

Anyway! Turles! A Saiyan with a lot of issues in Tytania. His mom is Sharotto, one of the Scarborough Sisters and his dad is Kabeji, Bardock's twin brother. He's double related in a way that he's cousins with Broly and Vegeta by the mother's side, and cousin to Goku on both mother and father's side. Because Turles's dad is a Lord in the Wyntre Court, and close to Vegeta's uncle, he frequently meets Vegeta and is friends with him as a result. However his parents died when he was quite young, about 8 or so, due to a curse*, and so Vegeta's uncle immediately adopted him.

The Saiyans have a specific term for people like Turles (humans just call them trans). They're called 'aathaloq' (a person living as a different gender from what they're born with) and they're seen as and treated just the same as people who identify with the gender they're given from birth. Basically, to Saiyans in general, Turles is a man. Someone who isn't exactly connected to Saiyan culture and language (like Goku) will probably have trouble understanding that due to biases (or in Goku's case, he just is that disconnected from anything to know this), but that's just how the Saiyans roll.

*The curse is called the Winter Pact. It's a very specific magical disease in Turles' bloodline that has a one in 150000 chance of inflicting someone practising ice magic. Once manifested, it starts to slowly freeze a Saiyan from the inside out, until eventually they become a frozen statue -- from there on out they die slowly while being unable to move. There is no known cure for it as of yet, but the Winter Pact can be slowed down, and the Winter Pact can 100% be passed on and infect others - this is the reason why both Sharotto and Kabeji died. Later on, Turles will find himself also inflicted by the Winter Pact and also discover the source of the curse -- part of his character arc that I'd like to explore much later into the story.

Because of that little encounter above, Turles is a little apprehensive towards Goku at first. Later on he learns to warm up to him when he finds Goku's genuinely sorry for being insensitive about his gender, although for Turles there was something about Goku that he couldn't quite place, and that made him a little uneasy -- that keeps him from being as close to Goku as Vegeta and Broly are. In the beginning, he's also got a little rivalry with Goku with regards to Chichi (someone he fell in love with and want to be close to), but respectfully steps aside when Chichi shows that she loved Goku in earnest. Don't worry about him though, he'll get a happy love story anyway, hee hee!
