This illustration depicts the likely scenario that lead to a real fossil.

Species: Columbian mammoth Mammuthus columbi.

Fossil: Two adult skeletons locked together by the tusks.

Age: Late Pleistocene.

Location: Badlands, Nebraska, USA.

Stats: Both individuals were aged around 40 years old and estimated to weigh just over 9 tonnes. Each individual had a broken tusk on the opposing side.

Extra info: Discoved by workmen in 1962. Mammoths use their curved tusks to wrestle, however the broken tusks allowed these two individuals to get too close to each other and were tangled up. Ultimately one fell over and dragged the other down to the ground, where they died. One of the individuals was even poked in the eye by the opposing short tusk.
