I am doing some digital art classes by Marco Bucci (you can purchase them for yourself at his website @ marcobucciartstore.com/collect… ) and I was getting a feel for just putting a bunch of brush strokes and color down on my digital canvas and seeing what would happen... I really kept it loose trying a huge variety of brushes i have downloaded for free and purchased to put differeing textures... I tried to mix up the values for light and shading... and after a while i started to see a story form and I went with it.

I made a lot of changes to it on the way but the same general concept stayed the same. It was a really interesting process to try.. and It makes a lot of sense doing it yourself.

Anyways it was a nice break from my one year challenge week by week focus stuff (which this week is on hair).. I have been feeling a bit stagnant in my work and its nice to do something more imaginative again rather then pinterest girls/boys and character designs.

I am still learning a lot about my style, brush strokes, colors, values and composition.. but I feel more confident then I ever have about doing landscapes and backgrounds which for all my life have been my weakest point.

just some other info - I did this in a single day but its still a couple hours worth of work separated out in a couple sittings. If i was doing something like this more constructively I would probably spend several weeks to really refine it. but it just goes to show if your really loose with your work you can bust out a concept in a single day or sitting that still shows well in a thumbnail.
