Description
Oil painting of my children, long ago........12x24........1994-1997This was origingally larger, with a unicorn colt in the background and a cat........but it just didn't work. I cropped it so that the main focus wasn't divided, but on the children.
Reference Photo for painting, for those interested [link]

It DID take patience, and I did a lot of work and concentrating on getting a lot of color into the shadows, and the grass. It took a lot of layers and pushing and pulling here and there to get it as rich as I could. (but I enjoyed it)

Can you scan it in two scans? Do you have Photoshop? If you answered yes you can do it, with a little work. Scan one, move it, scan the second. Go into Photoshop and create a file the size of the original and open both in Photoshop, copy and paste into the file you created and move the two layers around until they line up, then flatten the layers. Two other possiblities is to photograph it with either a regular camera and scan the photo, or with a digital camera and upload it. I did submit one that was from a photo, maybe a couple. The hardest thing was to make sure the art was perfectly veritcal, and that the camera was held squarely in front of the work. It wasn't too hard and it does work.
Get the feeling I really want to see it??? If you can do it great....if you can't...........rats!!

I tried scanning it on tw scans, but it eats up a part
and I don't have anyone to ask borrowed a digital camera T_T
I've tried, I should upload them anyways even if it looks like a book scan lol

I had a problem like that with my latest sketch, even though it all showed through the scanner.....it's clear and movable, it didn't come out on the scan. I also had problems with the old regular scanner, I had to make sure of the edges and do lots of overlap. It's really a pain. I understand your problem. *sigh* Just wasn't meant to be. Thanks for trying.............You could borrow my digital if you were close enough, but I don't think thats going to work.

LOL looks like you had better concentrate on the homework then. I remember the load of trying to do art and the rest of your classes.........the rest were easy, it was the art that took all the time.

Love this!!!! I think you made a good call on the cropping I think the added figures would have distracted the viewer's eye from the engaging details in the foreground, like the tiny sparrow with a red thread in it's beak, and the endearing books so casually laid under the bench. Great job hon!!--AG

I love the use of blue greens and blues in the grass, and the focal point is perfect. It really draws the eye to the children. I can't picture this one with other subjects, you're right, they just wouldn't fit.

Like I was telling spottedpegasus, I think I somehow got a convex curve in it when I extended it past the area of the original photo. I'm not sure...I just couldn't figure it out. It may have just been that there wasn't a strong focal point until I eliminated some of it. It's painted on masonite, and you can believe I gave it a LOT of thought before cutting it down!

pant, pant, I really need the chocolate. I've been working on getting the flyers and postcards together to send out. It's making me feel like I'm standing on my head while painting. I want this postcard to have these images on it, and that one to have this one from the 1st card and 2 different ones, and this other design should have these on it, and this mailer should have these images in it, and that one I should include 2 images from that mailer, but I need those images over there in it too..........................yeeeeeee. I hope to have mailers ready for 7 magazines tomorrow, with 2 or 3 that are mostly ink inside to work on some images for.

thanks, I think it was, too........it would have been magical........but for some reason I could never get it to feel right......I think it had something to do with the perspective of the ground

Probably true. That perspective would have been hard to add things in the distance.

ArtbySandiJohnson In reply to SpottedPegasus [2005-09-28 16:21:54 +0000 UTC]
well, the children were taken from a photo, and I think when I extended the scene and included more things I changed the perspective from the original photo and got some kind of convex curve in it.

SpottedPegasus In reply to ArtbySandiJohnson [2005-09-28 16:24:34 +0000 UTC]
That kind of thing might have worked if you could have worked in a hill or some kind of incline but I bet it would be dificult. I still like it the way it is. It reminds me of walking through the park and comming up to two children. That would be where my perspective is about. I am 6 feet tall.

Hey, wow. 6 feet is great. I hope you stand up really straight and confident.

ArtbySandiJohnson In reply to SpottedPegasus [2005-09-28 17:23:12 +0000 UTC]
I understand that. I have a 2nd cousin who is tall and she slumps. You have something that will make you stand out in a crowd. I know it isn't entirely convenient, but use it as an asset. You ARE tall, and you'll look much better tall and straight than tall and slumped

SpottedPegasus In reply to ArtbySandiJohnson [2005-09-28 18:38:08 +0000 UTC]
I agree with that one. You know you would think that I stand out in a croud and that people would notice me when I walk in but at the same time I can slip past a who group of people and they would never know I was there.

ArtbySandiJohnson In reply to SpottedPegasus [2005-09-28 18:55:23 +0000 UTC]
It's probably good that you can slip by. Always being noticed would get tiring. Could be how you move and how long you linger. Anyway sounds a good thing to go unnoticed when you want to.
