When I got into comic books as a small child I often read UK reprints of 70s/80s Marvel comics with Alpha Flight (the Canadian superteam) as a back up strip. Canada strangely seemed like a magical place to my partially developed mind, and Canadian superheroes like the Wolverine also. I hope that is an explanation of sorts!
