Description
Costume: Museumish!Integra HellsingSeries: Hellsing
Note to all of you cosplayers who, like me, have decided to inflict the dreaded Long Wig of Doom on yourselves:
Always carry a can of oil sheen spray with you. It is a godsend.
At any rate, I did a little restyling on the wig and trimmed a bit more at the bangs, though you can't really tell, meh.
The cross was assembled in an hour or so via careful application of electrical tape, superglue and those nifty pin backings. I used needle-nosed pliers to rip off the metal circle that made it a necklace and a metal nail file to round out the edges at the top, since I was working with a small space and couldn't find anything else suitable for the job. xD
Still, as ghettofied as it is, it's also the closest-to-OVA cross I've seen, so mwah. -victory dance-
I am also pleased that I was able to use this skirt for something else. Originally it was made for an Elphaba cosplay that I've taken to only wearing around Halloween. Since I wanted a not-quite-circle skirt I found a decent pattern from a McCall's colonial-ish costume and made it longer to accommodate my beanpole stature. I usually wear it with a petticoat, for that extra floof, but Integra's skirt isn't that wide in the OVA and really, I couldn't see her putting up with that kind of frothy crap.
Lookin' at the tree, lookin' at the tree.
I need to make her hat, but I'm having a hard time finding one to mod and really, I /hate/ that hat. Hate hate hate. Maybe make it so the angle is not so severe, because /ew/.

Awesome job : )
Your cosplay looks really really nice : )
But hot damn, do I hear you on the long wigs.
After I cosplayed Integra, I swore I would never wear that wig again.
I'm such a bad liar- her wig is so much work, but it's so pretttty XD
And ohmygod, another integra cosplayer who hates her hat. thank you. I just... can't... stand it.... XC
and again~ Really nice job : )

Talk to me on Gaia sometime about making cross pins, if you like. I can relate to the frustration. My main a friend hand made it for me, but I've got a stock pile of secondary crosses I carry with to hand out to other good cosplayers who only lack a proper cross to be excellent.

I love shop talk! I've been planning this cross for quite a while- I even have one extra so I can make another if necessary. Most of the time was just spent waiting for the proper base cross to make itself known to me.
That's really sweet of you! :3

You are so lucky to have someone to photograph you! Really!
Yeah, my wig is a load of frizzy shite. I really load it full of bases and various concoctions, but it still looks weird. I think I need to trim it. Now I wanna see what your skirt looks like when you stand up....

I'm very blessed to have friends who'll put up with my narcissism. x3 My photog also tends to have great ideas for posing if I happen to be stuck, which is of massive massive help when I brainfart in the middle of a shoot.
Check out my LJ: [link] I have a list of products I used on my long wigs and I'm always good for suggestions. :3 Do you know what your wig is made out of?
I really cannot swear by Oil Sheen Spray enough when it comes to taming mine. Other cosplayers also use the Mane and Tail horsie products, as well. I haven't been able to find any around here (or I'm not looking hard enough), but you might know of/have seen them before since you're a rider. Several people I know online have recommended M&T's detangler. Since it's made for more coarse fibered hair it works like a charm on really stubbornly frizzy wigs.
re: skirt - I've got more photos of this particular costume in my cosplay.com gallery, but here's a full length shot of the skirt: [link]
I can also dig up the pattern # if you'd like to make your own.

Ah, you are so lucky! I have very few friends IRL, and I dare not burden them with taking photos of me. None of them seem to have a passion for photography anyway. When I do get a photographer, it's always a parent, and I find myself unable to channel Integra into the photos, resulting in stiff, boring shots. Until then, I must satisfy my vanity with bust-up self photos until I manage a tripod and a camera that can actually focus during the auto-timer mode. -_-;
I used M&T on myself, but the real king of the horse-detangling world is Cowboy Magic. M&T has gotten a little dumbed down lately after humans became so fond of using it. However, horse products are so expensive.

Awesome cosplay. Where do you get this oil sheen spray? And can camellia oil suffice? I go to a local Ren Faire as a Tolkein styled elf and have brought down the snarly wrath of a 3 foot long black wig for many days.

I found my can at Sally's Beauty, with their weave supplies. I think you can also find it in Wal-Mart as well, in the ethnic hair care section.
I'm not sure how camellia oil will do... o.o Hm. Sheen spray is especially made for wigs and weaves, though, so the oil isn't really super-awful-slick oily.
It's not really made for detangling, more as a preventative measure, but I've had some luck in unknotting snarls if I spray it a bit and spend time pulling them out with a metal rattail comb while the fibers are slick.
Cosplay.com has this thread that might explain things a bit better and has some great product suggestions for really snarly wigs: [link]
Hope this helps! :3

It does actually, there's a Sally's in two towns near me. I'll look it up. Thanks

Thanks. I ended up buying two of them when I found them, for safety. xD I never ever lose things, but there's always a first time.
Thank you. And thank you again, by the way, for just being awesome. :3 You've really helped inspire me as I've continued to work on Integra.

Awww you're too sweet. <3 God, I haven't done anything with her in SO long I feel like I don't even have the right to call myself an Integra cosplayer anymore... but I'm planning a new version for this year... so... soon. ^_^
What cons are you planning this year? We have so got to hang out.

I still count you as one of the finest. :3 You add unique touches to her and it's nice to meet a kindred spirit in that regard, since I'm always finding weird little accoutrements for my cosplays that I think fit in with the character. And also, you're seriously just so bloody /nice/ and it's honest, not put-upon, which I greatly admire. There's a few snobs in the Hellsing cosplayer community and it rankles like no other.
I can't wait to see her when you're finished!
I'm set for A-Kon 19 this June and possibly AFEST '08, both of which are Dallas cons. Since I'm in the middle of a massive career shift, I am teh poor. >< One day, though, one day I'm going to Expo and Otakon, if only to shake off the scene here for a time.

Thank you very much. :"3
(OMG it is better than sliced bread. Hose down the wig, keeping away from the crown but going especially for the ends where it's most prone to tangling and right beneath where it can catch in your shirt collar and get wonky when you move your neck. Let it dry, anywhere from thirty minutes to 24 hours, depending on how much of the can you used [xD] and then run through it with a wide-toothed comb. Like buttah. o___o For serious.
It doesn't physically change the wig fiber, but it does coat it so it acts more like natural, human hair. Heck of a lot easier to deal with, imho.
You can usually find it in beauty supply shops, around where they keep their weave stuff. And it /never/ runs out. oO; I'm at four long wigs over a year and IT IS STILL FULL! This is madness!
I'm glad this could help you out. ^_^)
