Though in my head, my brain was suggesting a more metaphorical thought process way of conveying that, as in his time stops and no one else's does (Curse my bad word choice), and I think it's just because I thought of it before; that a guy goes through his life thinking these wild fantasies and he's essentially in a different reality to everyone around him and that that's kinda the joke.
(Added in post) Though yeah, since it's kinda more about the fact that he's breaking physical laws here... well, it's probably more likely that his sadness caused time to literally stop, at least in story logic.
