Man, I woulda loved SU if it had turned out to be a space adventure, but I think the writers disagreed on some things and honestly the ending was kinda disappointing

Honestly I feel like the ending was pretty much in line with steven's philosophy. Hes not one to fight unless he has to, so it sort of makes sense that the ending was non-violent in nature. I mean, it wasnt the most EXCITING ending to any show ive ever seen, but I thought that, for what the show was, it was appropriate.

I know, I know, it's just that the universe kinda bent over backwards specifically so that he [i]could[/i] have his happy ending, y'know? Happy endings are nice and all, but Steve really got his handed to him

I mean, sure, I guess? but at the same time, it's a kid's show so It's not like it was really going to end any other way. I mean, like I said, the point of the show was to portray the fact that violence isn't the only way to settle things. even though it was a little heavy-handed I feel like it was done about as well as it could have been, lol

Honestly, with some of the, err, themes... in Steven universe, I don't see violence as being at all foreign in their midsts. I mean, remember beach-a-palooza, where the original Steven literally killed like fifty time-clones of himself, AND himself in the process? There's also themes of psychological and sexual abuse with Lapis and that one buff chick whose name escapes me (that might actually be trying to identify as a dude cause she's a shapeshifter who seems to outright prefer masculine traits, IE muscular body, broad shoulders, gruff voice, even a squarish jaw) and the watermelon stevens of course who also died a lot. And then there's Steven's mom dying in childbirth, so tragedy seems to still be on the table. I mean, I get it, the finale's gonna be a big deal, they wanna make the final statement. But honestly, they've never really shied away from dark topics in the past, and I'm honestly disappointed that they did when all the chips were down.
And honestly, isn't violence last way a person naturally WANTS to settle things? When you're young, you pick fights, you lose. Violence quickly becomes a train ticket to painsville. Nobody likes the idea of getting their face smashed, so they don't risk it by trying to murderize other people. I'm a fairly feisty, competitive person, and I still hate the idea of actually having to come to blows with a person. It's just such a high risk. Besides, are naturally violent people gonna listen to the kid's show that says "don't fight cause people say it's bad", or are they gonna listen to the true stories of those who live by the sword, dying by the sword? I think it's better to be honest about the consequences of violence, than to make it seem like every monster, even the ones who would abuse their own family, can be talked down. Imagine what a kid could do with that kind of belief? Trying to talk down some wife-beating, child-molesting bastard on behalf of their hurting friend... I don't like the false sense of courage it would imbue children with, that anyone can be reached if you just say the right words.
Oof, and now I just finished a rant xP sorry if I'm harsh, it's just that SU's philosophy kinda had a negative impact on my early life. I wish I'd known then that some problems just aren't ours to solve, especially with something as easily denied as words.
