having been granted the powers of a senshi at age six by a strange talking cat, bright and cheery selena originally went by the name of sailor sunbeam, using her powers over light in combination with her whip blade to bring justice to monsters and demons and the like. at age 13, however, things went sour. selena went to court to witness the trial of a man who murdered her parents months before in a robbery she witnessed. when the man was declared innocent, she became bitter and angry, wondering why she would protect a race so blind and violent. she cracked, and her powers were corrupted by the forces of darkness. she felled her former guardian, and her personality and abilities flipped. she now goes about using her dark powers and deadly scythe to hunt other senshi and steal their souls for reasons unknown to anyone. while her end game is a mystery, it's clear she portrays a serious threat to the others, and that she won't stop until her mysterious plan comes to fruition.

considering i don't want her to seem broken, i figure i list off most of her abilities.
1: she has the ability to blot out ll light within 15 feet of her current position. anyone caught in the darkness-which she can see clearly in- is subject to a brutal mauling with the scythe. however, since she's always center mass of the darkness, anyone outside the radius can easily pinpoint where she is, and any well placed ranged attack would pretty much do the trick. since nightshade knows this, she usually keeps this trick for 1-on-1 combat as a finisher.
2: when fighting multiple opponents, she can use her own shadow to create powerful tendrils to attack. since they don't require the power it takes to blot light out, their range is slightly longer, at 20 feet, but even so, she can't see behind her, so attacks from behind can sometimes throw her off. since nightshade is aware of this too, she usually makes it a habit to always be on the move when outnumbered.
3: she's capable of sending out sharp waves of dark energy using her scythe. they're capable of cutting through pretty much physical thing, but any magically oriented defense is usually pretty effective at holding off the attack a couple of times. this attack also requires a lot of energy, and although she has more than the average senshi, if she fires too many of these off, she'll get exhausted pretty quick. as such, she typically only uses this ranged attack once in a while.
4: she can use any shadows nearby (within 15 feet) to create more tendrils, but the more she uses, the shorter the range is on all of them. on the flip side, the more she has, the more dangerous she is up close. she usually prefers to keep the number to 4 or less.
5: her scythe can absorb the souls of people she kills. she dumps them somewhere later on, as the scythe does have limit to how much power it can hold, but until she empties it, the power of the souls she steals is added to her own. no one knows where the souls are placed or why. there's no real getting around it. this ability is kind of broken. but then again, bad guys always have the cooler stuff anyways.
