This is a follow up to this stamp: www.deviantart.com/arthurengin…For some time now, I've been defending Lady, saying she's overhated. This time, I'm going to defend a locomotive who's been overhated since her announcement, and has been hated for some of the worst reasons you could ever imagine.
Yep. I'm defending Nia the Orange Engine. I have nothing against this locomotive. I felt sorry for her when Ace made Thomas betray her, but dear god is her hatedom shocking!
Here are some things Nia haters would say:
BAWW! Y NEEUH RIPLAIS EDWOOD?!?!?!?
This is the most common reason I see when it comes to hating Nia, all because she replaced Edward in the "Steam Team". Okay, just because Edward isn't in Tidmouth Sheds anymore doesn't mean he's gone from the series.
People even hate Rebecca for a similar reason regarding Henry.
UGH! She's orange!!!
Here's another ridiculous reason to hate Nia. Some hate her because she's orange. She might remind them of Billy the Orange Engine, who always called Thomas a big bossy boiler.
At least Nia is kinder than Billy ever was!
If people just don't like Nia's livery, that's fine.
And here's the reason that takes the cake:
UGH! NEEUH IS A KENYAN ENJIN!!! WHY SHEE IGZIST?!?!?
Yep. Some people hate Nia because she's a Kenyan engine.
Look, I can take people hating Nia for replacing Edward, or not liking her livery, but I will never, repeat NEVER take anyone who hates Nia because she's Kenyan. Seriously! Hating Nia for being Kenyan is discrimination!!
If I remember correctly, some people on Twitter even attacked Yvonne Grundy (Nia's voice actress) just because she voices Nia!
By this logic of Nia being hated for being Kenyan, Ashima should be hated for being Indian, Hiro should be hated for being Japanese, Yong Bao should be hated for being Chinese, Ivan should be hated for being Russian, Frieda should be hated for being German, Gina should be hated for being Italian, Axel should be hated for being Belgian! Do any of you get where I'm going with this? Hating a character for their nationality is.... RACIST!!!!

Honestly, she's just so bland and she doesn't have that much potential, I don't hate her because where she comes from but holy fuck! And I'm gonna get a bit political in here: I'm so tired of people using the staple of someone's race as something that is so important that it eliminates the personality and escense of the character (which ironically is a very racist concept by itself, used by actual supremacists, mind you).
Also, we are talking about Mattel, like come on! Those mfers have a ton of corpses inside the closet (mainly from over exploited third world workers) they have the least of the right to contact the UN to do things right... the same organization that, ironically, comes to literally invade poor countries and fuck them up for not being cooperative (like what they did to Haiti by giving them cholera through the water) ...
But that's just filling for this whole thing, I don't hate Nia because of her nationality, I hate how she was used just to shut people up, her lackluster charm, her lack of an *actual* personality (like the majority of the female engines whoops!) and how she just seems to embody the trope of "funny foreigner" but y'know...WOKE because otherwise this sort of racism won't be accepted!
But that's just me and nothing more!

Oh, also, merchandising, goddamn the fucking merch...
Mattel made Thomas really dirty in general but instead on focusing on the whole important thing that THE SHOW they are expecting to rely on merch all the time, like bruh the merch has gone to shit too!
Again, Nia is just a bland character created to pay lip service to people, you cannot expect a concrete and well done reason for such banal stuff that was just thrown at random in a pathtic attempt to give her "depth"

Exactly! This is another thing that bothers me, how they bring up new characters and they keep forgetting about others until they forget about the new characters.
Nia, to me, she's as unnecesary as Ashima, but at least she wasn't used as the sole purpose of fanservice.

I don't care about most characters introduced, I actually like many of them, what I don't like is how they act that they never existed and they get erased impromptu from the show...that hurts me because there is so much potential wasted
