Description
heh heh... just a pic of how I make a tail... well at least the bone of the tail... I like to use the spring cuz it give it a nize swing!here's a description of how to do this
Well, I've made one tail before... I used a long spring (should be the lenght of the tail) (the kind that you might find in a ... actually I don't know what they are called... curtain hanger rods? the type that you push in to adjust to fit between walls) anyway, if you know what that is, steal it's spring! ... Then you bend the spring into the shape you want the tail... (do an over exagerated S shape cuz the heavy fabrick will weight probably it down) Use wire to reinforce the shape. On the end that is going to be the base of the tail, take a metal hanger, straighten it, bent it in half and fold the edge into a sort of V (or Y) shape... (this part will slip on the back of whatever pants you are wearing, so make sure it fits well on the small of your back/butt ) bend the two edges of the T so that they would fold around the rim of your pants snuggly and pull back together to form a v... You should have 2 long ends of the hanger left that might need to be trimmed a little. These will be stuck on the inside of the spring. Since the hanger is a lot more stiff than the spring it will provide an initial lift (ie keeps it from drooping) so make sure it isn't too short... or too long (otherwise you'll loose the swing of the spring) ... anyway, bend the ends of the hanger over the spring and wrap more wire around the hanger and spring to secure it. ... that's it for the base...
Get a batting type of fabric (i think that's what it's called, it's like a thin sheet of fluff). Cut a piece long and wide enough to cover the whole tail frame. (you use this instead of stuffing fluff cuz it would interfere with the spring and would be really hard to stuff...) Wrap the batting around the tail and sew it down... Finally get your fur, measure and cut it out to fit the tail (leave a little room for the seem) ... Sew the fur together inside out separately. Then you can either turn it over and slip it on over the frame, or try turning it over as you slip it over the frame sew the end of the fur to the metal frame... aaaand that's about it and now you have a nice bouncy swishy tail ^^
Hope that wasn't too confusing and hope you find this interesting ^^

I think what you mean by "curtain hanger rods" is a Tension rod.
Like these things? 4.bp.blogspot.com/_UANDH_2zKkkâŚ

No problem.
I wondering, how to you built the rest of this?
I'm considering making it, but I'm not sure about the batting part - any tips there?

Hmm, it's been a while since I made this, but I believe I cut a piece of batting as long as the spring, and wide enough to completely wrap around the spring, then hand stitched it down along the length of the spring. At points I probably anchor stitched it to the spring so it wouldn't slide down.
As for the actual tail covering, I pretty much made it like a sleeve (or a sock) and slid it over (make sure the hollow of the tail "sleeve" is big enough to fit over the batting, but not so big that it is too loose.
I hope that helps!

Hmmm... You know what, I don't think I do. I'll have to try to remember to hunt it down and take a picture.

I'm guessing it's between 2 - 3 feet. I'd have to hunt it down to get the actual measurements But I know it's decently long ^^
