up here amidst the silent frostwhere snowflakes dance & time is lost
my footprints play in virgin white
under the warming blush of morning light
my boots crunch upon the icy terrain
my heart rings out with a similar strain
yet through the frost and biting chill
I forge ahead with a stubborn will
cresting the peak, I pause to gaze
at the lake below in a golden blaze
the sun peeks shy from the mountain's fold
a spectacle of beauty; timeless, bold
isn't it funny, this game I play?
wearing this mask every single day
behind the icy facade, a yearning burns
for a touch, a glance... a love that returns
why does my heart always yearn
for someone to see past my turns?
I push them away with an icy grin
but secretly hope they'll pull me in Β
the freezing wind, it seems to speak
words of love, making me see
the longing within, and it's hard to ignore
but the world only sees the facade that I wear
I've built these walls so high & so wide
to protect the tenderness I hide inside
but solitude's peak in this wintery land
bears witness to the yearning I withstand
beneath the beam of the waking sun
my icy facade for now comes undone

as dawn surrenders to the day
