Checkpoint 2.3: Have you ever met someone from outside your faction?

"I meet horses from other herds all the time."
The zebra's demeanor hadn't changed much over the course of their journey to Valore from the farmlands of Onea.

Thank goodness he was traveling with Issac. The fellow ranger kept his distance and his mouth shut, which Bix greatly appreciated.
The twins, however, were a different story.

One seemed desperately homesick as they reached the gleaming city, the other bitter and angry. They had seemed excited to travel at first, but now the journey did to them what it did to many others - it became too long. Travelers who weren't used to walking for days constantly romanticized the trip. Or any trip, for that matter. They forgot that traveling the roads usually meant sleeping outside, carrying all our belongings on your back, and getting chewed on by insects. Because they had left Onea in the spring, the weather also brought with it rain and mud.
He wished they were both more perceptive.

Their path had taken them south through Aodh, through Drakefire Wood. Bix knew the lay of the land and was sure to steer clear of The Bones, fearing members of the black market wouldn't hesitate to swipe twins from a couple of rangers for the slave trade. He and Issac would have to keep a close eye on the two when they entered the city. If news got out that they ran from home, the zebra feared hungry slave traders would swoop in to capitalize.

He and Issac escorted the two around the better parts of the city, stopping in local shops and meeting sanctum attendants. All the while, Bix kept a careful eye on the crowds. Most aodhians were in awe of the two, thankfully. In a culture where twins are prized and believed to share a soul, these two shared a hind end, too.

While exploring the markets on the Gilded Bridge, an unusually ghost-like stallion caught his eye. The bridle he wore proved his wealth, but his glassy blue eyes made Bix especially uncomfortable; he was eyeing Newt and Cricket.
Instinctively, Bix stepped closer to them, refusing to flinch when the gaze transferred to him. The zebra flicked his tail over his haunches, doing his best to keep his mind blank. The way the old horse was watching him reminded the zebra of someone he had met that had been blessed with telepathy.

"Get out of my head, creep." He thought before steering the group away.

Now in Valore, he's keeping an eye on Newt and Cricket, even if it's from a distance. He's been really exercising his perception, therefore has earned it as his second talent!

This development goes into making Bix more aware of his surroundings, but also of others. He won't admit it, but the zebra has started to care about others more than he planned to. Issac is impossible not to love, and Newt might be bitter, but Bix believes the boy shows potential as a ranger.

This is just something I've been working on in between commissions and the book! Plus, Bix needed his activity check for the month.
