Description Royal horses les gooo
otherwise known as the headcanons where i ramble on about stupid stuff. O wait i do that all the time hecc.

Disclaimer: In this AU, the Princesses don't retire and hand the throne down to Twilight. They are still the ruling monarchs of Equestria. Twilight is more or less addressed as Duchess, Lady, or Professor. She is not shown on here because despite being a part of Royalty, she is not one of the main monarchs, which she is completely fine with. (Being in the spotlight gives her too much anxiety. She is still one of the four princesses but prefers not to use her title all the time.) She is still the headmare of the University of Friendship, and teaches/substitutes at Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns from time to time. As a result, the events from the premiere and finale of Season 9 either don't take place in this AU or happen a bit differently.

Queen Caelesti Solaria Sky of Equestria or Queen Celestia, as she's known now, was, for a long time, believed to be a celibate ruler and her subjects once used to address her as Princess. They still will get the two mixed up from time to time, but Celestia doesn't mind though. Eh. Princess, Queen, ain't it the same thing? Celestia only took on the title after her marriage to King Sombra.

After being taken to this new land of mysterious ponies to escape the War, Celestia and Luna were abandoned by their handmaiden who was ordered to take the young princesses to safety. Upon receiving word that the daughters of the fallen Alicorn ruler, Cosmos, was upon what was then Unicornia territory, Princess Platinum of the Unicorns along with her troops took in the two frightened, and now orphaned, sisters.
She, along with the other future Founders of Equestria, chose to have a truce to end the ongoing civil war of Earth, Magic, and Sky after the Alicorn race was falling very quickly during the Great Chaotic War. All three tribes united and teamed up against the Draconequui and the war was won, but not without great loss and devastation. Only one little Draconequus cub remained out of his civilization; Discord. Celestia and Luna were the only two remaining Alicorns, if not for them the Equus Caelestis would have gone extinct.

Princess Platinum became like an adoptive mother figure to Celestia and Luna. After the Great Chaotic War finally ended and Equestria was founded, Platinum appointed Starswirl the Bearded, her best mage, to mentor and groom the two sisters to rule the land. Platinum did not have children of her own, and did not want to marry a noble, plus she was dating Clover the Clever, Starswirl's former apprentice, in secret. Celestia was able to raise the sun with almost little to no effort, at such a young age, which is why she quickly won over the new nation's adoration. Luna, on the other hand, wasn't as appreciated or admired as Celestia was. She struggled to raise the moon, and when she did, ponies didn't even acknowledge her great accomplishment. Instead, they shunned the moonlight and slept. The audacity! Platinum and Starswirl certainly had their favorites; Celestia, seeing as she was older and seemed to be much more mature, they both preferred being around her and showed a bit more favoritism towards her. This painfully reminded Luna of her abusive childhood along with parental favoritism, and Celestia wasn't too shy to rub it in her sister's face. From then on her bitterness and hatred only grew. She grew very rebellious during her teenage years and would act out just for the slightest bit of acknowledgement or attention. Celestia was the center of the universe, the embodiment of the sun, practically born to be queen. And Luna was worthless, just a stupid space rock, the lesser light in the sky. Platinum tried to convince Luna that that wasn't true, but Luna could see right through her white lies.
In her past time, she would often escape to the Everfree Forest to visit a very close friend of hers, despite it not being a safe environment. But when Celestia had enough of Luna leaving the palace, she forbade her sister from going to the Everfree Forest, which shattered Luna and it was the last straw for her. She snapped and turned into Nightmare Moon. Celestia, with great reluctance and a heavy heart, had no choice but to banish her sister to the moon for one thousand years, in order to protect her subjects. Celestia was coronated the sole ruler of Equestria not long after Luna was banished, and the Celestial reign began.

After her sister was exiled to the moon for a millenia, Celestia ruled the newly founded Equestria with her head held high, but deep down, she felt..empty. And alone. Not too long ago she had lost her childhood home to war, lost her mother to an illness, lost her beloved father when he died in combat, and Luna, her baby sister; she had lost her to the darkness that overcame her and turned her into Nightmare Moon. Celestia felt overwhelming guilt and grief beyond comprehension. She felt guilty for teasing her sister for being born a pegasus, just because she was born a unicorn during their childhood. She felt guilty for not being there for her when she needed her most, their mother's death really took a toll on Luna, and their father's abusive nature didn't help at all. She just wanted her sister back, but she knew that that wouldn't be possible until a thousand years later. But then, Starswirl introduced the mirror world's portal to Celestia...

She found herself frequently visiting the mirror world, almost as if it was a way to escape the harsh reality for a little while. Sombra was her everything. But when he got corrupted, the mirror was shattered, and Starswirl went MIA, it destroyed Celestia. She feared she would never see her beloved again. In the meanwhile, Celestia had mentored many students over the next few centuries in hopes of finally finding the one capable of defeating Nightmare Moon. And when Celestia found Twilight Sparkle and took her under her metaphorical wing, she knew she had made the right choice.

Once Luna rejoined her sister's side in ruling, she noticed that Luna over time, became more and more distant towards Celestia. Plus, she had had ever growing suspicions about this new Lunar Guard leader that her little sister was so smitten with...

King Cielo de Sombra of Equestria is the benevolent, patient, witty, and rather sarcastic co-ruler of Equestria. He rules alongside his wife, Queen Celestia, as well as his sister-in-law Princess Luna. But needless to say, this King wasn't always like this.

He was once evil, much like his counterpart, and both Sombras were evil at the same time. So, Celestia and Luna figured that, in order to get him back, one would have to be reformed for both to become good again. The next time Evil King Sombra attacked the Crystal Empire, the Crystal Heart was used to, no, not shatter him to f*cking smithereens, but to reform him instead. Evil King Sombra wasn't going without punishment, he was stripped of his title, and his horn of dark magic, and put into a reformation program. Eventually, the mirror portal was able to be reopened, as it could nearly every 50 moons, according to what Luna said. The shattered mirror pieces were rediscovered and put back into place, Celestia and Sombra reunite, they switch places, marry to align the worlds I guess?
I'll be doing some separate headcanons on Sombra so stay tuned for that Ehmostofmythoughtsaren'tevencompetelythoughtoutwheniyeetthemonherenobigdealiguess

Princess Lunaria Selene of Equestria is the Heir Presumptive of the Equestrian throne and has always seemed to be pushed aside for somepony else to be in the spotlight. She can seem to be prickly and cold on the outside, but really, she's just the exact opposite around those she's most fond with. (I headcanon Luna to be a Cancer, the mutable water sign known as the celestial crab. Plus the crab is ruled by the moon. I headcanon Celestia to be a Leo, the fiery, dominant, and dramatic celestial lion/lioness of the Zodiac, plus Leo's ruled by the sun. It just fits lmao)

Luna struggles from low self esteem, depression, separation anxiety, and PTSD which all came from a hell-filled abusive childhood that she went through. She often tends to use her Royal Canterlot voice when she's feeling insecure, which is. Like. Kinda all the time? Luna is, to this day, not as popular amongst the ponies unlike her sister Celestia, Empress Cadence, and Twilight. She longs to be noticed and gets tired of living in somepony else's shadow. She is 100% nocturnal and despises being up during mornings, especially when you pull off an all-nighter defending random ponies from nightmares. As for the Lunar Guard, who are just as nocturnal as she is, are fiercely loyal to their princess and consider her a queen tbh. Luna does get tired of random batpony stallions trying to seduce her though, ew srry no thanks i'm taken.

Luna struggled quite a bit with learning Ponish (Pone English, not Polish) at first, which is why she often tends to speak a bit abnormally than your modern pastel horse today. (Plus when u on the moon for 1000 years ya kinda forget how to talk altogether.) Luna and Celestia's native language is Latin, which nearly disappeared along with their kind, but Luna also knows a bit of French from her deceased mother, and Celestia took up Spanish to better understand her hubby Sombra, whose native language is Español.

and yes, Luna does have a lover, but he will be revealed soon. ;')
