Space sort of background because the sun and moon share the same sky plus I had no idea wut to do for a background pls help

finally figured out how to do proper gradients

Gave Celestia a more sunlight look with her gradients so I didn't have to spend 5+ hours on her mane trying to get my shit together. Gave her more of a regal mane style, cuz how can she stand constantly having her long flowing mane in her face. Something I'll never understand, which is why 1/3 of her total mane is put up so she doesn't accidentally step on it. It's still flowing, but yanno, limited canvas space amirite.

I had fun playing around with Luna's redesign, might not go through with it though, just wanted to remove that damned purple translucent strip in her mane and give her more of an ombre look with her mane fading from Nightmare Moon's mane color to Luna's original mane color. (Even when NM disappeared, she left Luna behind with a darker coat and a now flowing mane (which was weird considering Luna never had a flowing mane before, despite how much magic she possessed.)
Also, I honestly feel like since MLP has included examples of other types of horse breeds (ex. Saddle Arabians, donkeys, zebras, etc) it should be more diverse and similar to horses in the real world, except their gay pastel singing horses instead.
So, as a result, I headcanon Luna to be a short and fluffy Appaloosa alicorn, which explains the dark splotch on her cutie mark. (She's one of Equestria's shortest princesses, compared to Celestia, she's dwarfed by her. Cadence stands a towering three centimeters taller than her, Twi shorter than Luna thankfully.) Didn't feel like drawing her gauntlets though, she probably kicked em off and left them in the throne room or something idk

In this AU, I headcanon that once her sister returned from her 1000 years of being exiled on the moon, Celestia eventually took on the title of Queen. (It became official after her union to King Sombra) Her subjects will sometimes still address her unintentionally as Princess, but Celestia doesn't mind at all. Luna, being the younger sister, (and spare heir respectively) still remains a princess. (But the members of the Lunar guard consider their leader a queen dammit)
I'm not a big fan of Tia and Lulu yeeting their responsibilities and crowns down to Twilight. Oh wait, take it back, I actually hate that idea. The series finale ruined Twilight and turned her into a Mary Sue imo. So yeah, instead, Celestia and Luna co-rule Equestria, Cadence is an Empress, not a princess, and co-rules the Crystal Empire alongside her hubby Emperor Consort Shining Armor. And Twilight remains headmaster of the School (University? College? Wtf type of school is it?) of Friendship.
