Description
Honestly, for me, what made the original 4 films work was in their unique designs for the graboids (in all it's stages of it's life cycle). In that, even when they seemed over the top, they still remained somewhat biologically sound and grounded in reality. They didn't follow the typical monster design tropes... until the newer ones anyways. As they also behaved more like animals than true monsters. Just going around doing what they do to survive. It just so happens humans are in that category of what they eat. ΒOne alternative I thought of was to introduce a whole new species of underground worm unrelated to the Graboid. As convergent evolution is a very common thing in nature, I figured that at some point there must've been another creature that followed in the footsteps (so to speak) of the Graboid.
...
A full body shot of this guy. Is much leaner and streamline and only has a three pedal "beak". Have a slight hunch to their front area, as to better position themselves for a shot. Much like how a crocodile peers up at the waterβs surface. Are much smaller too. Say by about, 10 feet give or take. Putting them at 20 - 22ft.
Other than appearance, this fella's method of hunting is slightly different to the Graboid. Similarly to a archerfish This guy will calculate the distance and height of it's target based on it's noise output (lighter, heavier, etc.) and will remain some feet away w/ the tip of it's beak exposed and be opened up. Puckered, if you will. And fire in the general direction and hitting the target w/ either of the two sprawled out tongues. Or it'll emerge on the surface w/ it's entire front half and do so that way. It has only two tongues and that they function less like the tentacles of an octopus and more closer to the tongue of a chameleon and the two specialized tentacles of a cuttlefish used for darting out and snatching prey. More of a narrow face and much quicker. Not as hefty or heavily built though which, makes them not as robust and are more delicate in comparison. Doesn't mean that they're total pushovers. If Graboids are the lions, than the False Graboid are the cheetahs.
