Description
EDIT: Added some more info and tweaked a few sentences. After Godzilla’s first attack, he returned but this time with another kaiju of prehistoric origin: Anguirus. The two seemed to be constantly locked in combat with each other. The reasons for this could be that they are fighting over territory after their environments were destroyed by the testing of atomic bombs by humans.
Like Godzilla, Anguirus is also scarred with radiation burns. They aren’t as severe as Godzilla’s due to the animal’s thick skin and tough armour, but he has them nonetheless. A research team, founded shortly after the 1954 incident, hypothesized that Anguirus is closely related to an unnamed ancient species of a crocodilian-like reptile (Armadillosuchus) that, through convergent evolution, developed a shell on it’s back much like the modern turtle/tortoise.
It grew in size alongside other super-sized animals; with Gojiradons (Godzilla’s ancestors/species of origin) being one of them. His body plan is very close to that of an echidna: www.echidnawalkabout.com.au/wp… with his feet facing backwards/outwards. Anguirus, despite it’s stocky appearance, is capable of both swimming and has a good amount agility.
Anguirus’ species - alongside Godzilla’s species (and possibly other ginormous super-species), lived on into the present day. The two seemed to naturally hate each other and would fight whenever, and wherever they met. Not caring for the unfortunate humans who got caught between their intense fights across Japan.
In 1955, less than a year after Godzilla’s first made his appearance to the world, the two titans showed up and fought ferociously across the coast of Japan. Godzilla and Anguirus showed no signs of stopping anytime soon.

Anguirus looks pretty neat, although I feel like the beak could stand to be swapped out for his trademark fangs.

I like it. Wonder if Anguirus' species and Godzilla's have a rivalry like in the original film, or what else was in this giant-sized ecosystem?

In my take on the Godzilla universe, the two were both disfigured and forced out of their original habitats by nuclear/atomic bomb testing.
With their home gone, they went on a search for new territory. Both made landfall on the coast of Japan. Not wanting to share w/ each other, they started to fight to see who’d get to claim this place as their own.
So it’s less of a rivalry, and more of a territorial dispute between giants. And yes, I do plan on adapting the other monsters into this version of the Godzilla universe.

If you look closely, he still does. As does Godzilla.

What would your depictions of Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah be like?

No clue, but I’ll (probably) think of something before “King of the Monsters” is released.
