Description
Based on this old concept art for the original ‘54 film: wikizilla.org/w/images/9/9c/Go… , where his head was meant to resemble a mushroom cloud a.k.a. the Atomic Bomb.

The Design: With there only the head that was drawn/sketched, I had to do a good amount of guess work for the body. When looking at his head, I get a humanoid/simian kind of vibe from it rather than a dinosaurian one like what they went w/ in the final film (which makes sense as King Kong was a primary source of inspiration for the film). So I hust rolled w/ that and this was the outcome. His feet are built like an elephant’s, as in he is actually tip-toeing and beneath his foot is padding. At the same time, I didn’t want him to look too human, so I greatly deformed his physical appearance, like a creature that’s been dwelling in a cave for all it’s life (I guess in this case, an underwater cave).

Final Thoughts: Looking back at this, I kinda wish that I could w/o a doubt say that I had complete ownership of the design here as it’s kinda grown on me. Oh well. A good chance that I’ll come back and do this again w/ a 2nd design, along w/ others more based on more of the original concept art/storyboards. Who knows.
