Description
I decided to paint a rose center on a narrow canvas. I wanted to paint something similar to this but on a longer canvas, but I haven't been able to do that. I think eventually I will.Related content

Nice painting!
Way to go with the interesting cropping of the subject.

I like cropping paintings of flowers. It makes them far more interesting because it forces the viewer to look at the painting longer to try and figure out what the rest of the flower looks like.

I must admit it looks great!
But oddly I can't seem to do it.
Just can't get myself to omit part of subject.

At first, I was the same way, but I eventually loosened up.

This is the closest you've ever embraced a rose, it's probably one of the best, too.

Hee hee! Hey - have I ever shown you this artist's works? [link] Hers are amazing! I think you'll really like them because they are traditional art, but they look as if they are done digitally. Go through her gallery.

Wow, that's amazing. I love how big her peices are. I bet they would jump out in a museaum. Wouldn't you think?

Definitely! She's just one of those artists whose pieces you can look at for hours on end! Amazing doesn't even begin to describe her. There are very few other artists with whose work I am as enamored as I am with hers.

Looking at the swirls of some rose petals sometimes gives me a headache, so I really admire those who have the concentration and the control to do it and to paint it successfully Nice close up of those swirls

Thanks so much! I get that way sometimes, too, and can't paint them properly. I just have to wait until I get in a good mood before I tackle drawing roses.

Yea, I think that's why I like them. There's not too much detail past drawing the petals in the correct places (which can very often be frustrating!). It's much more of a study in color variations and shading than anything else.
