Absolutely stunning, I tried me hand at making a model house recently - really enjoyed it, but mine was nothing compared to this.

Did you make the basic structure out of foamboard and then build up the detail and layers with plywood?

I didnt use foamboard. structure is 2 layers of plywood and veneer on elevations. I used 2 not only for rigitity but also some of the details are created with second layer (like windows frames around bottom panels)

Ah interesting - how do you shape/cut your plywood? Do you use a saw of somekind and sand it to shape? And what to do use to secure the boards to one another, nails or glue?

Sorry so many questions! I'm just interested in improving my modelmaking and you are clearly very talented at it.

the secret is in technology. I use laser cutter to cut my parts.

I preferred to buy this machine than a car, big plazma tv with xbox I dont regret. The best thing I ever had!
BTW, do you know any open source communities who make stop motion animation, like those people from blender organization?

The best online community for stop motion animation I know is: [link]
- They have a message board/forum that is really amazing, lots of people, lots of helpful advice, and pretty active. Definitely worth checking out (and if it's not quite what you are looking for they will be able to point you in the right direciton).

It's stunning! It's it made from balsa wood?

artmik In reply to littlemooglet [2010-02-02 13:28:13 +0000 UTC]

No, its plywood from model shop (1.5mm and 0.8mm) shingles are cut of 0.5mm sheets of wood used for laminating furnitures. I used balsa wood only for joists under the floor at the bottom of the house.

I like it too . I like this scale more than my previous model. I think I will build more in this scale in future.
