Haha, if it helps at all I never felt it.
Except now my hand feels like it's asleep, like the painful tingling thing.
Good learning experience, lol.

Ow ow ow ow ow...
THIS is why I want to find a way to stop my friend from doing this! To stop her from getting hurt this badly.
The picture makes me flinch every time I look at it... So I'm guessing you succeeded with this picture.
I'm glad you're better already : )

Haha yeah.
Everyone should definitely not do this.
Or even try.
And I do like to convey as strong an emotion as I can.

This is fucking amazing, sir. Very beautiful, very painful, very amazing. I am glad that you live to post this picture because I absolutely love it.
What did it feel like, physically and emotionally?
I understand the pain and desire to do this, but I've never had the balls to attempt it, so I'm very curious about it.
I'm not trying to encourage this, I just find it fascinating and beautiful.

ARTnoob In reply to Leslie-Elizabeth [2009-11-08 01:33:19 +0000 UTC]

Well thank you.
In the instant, it was meant to be a little cut.
This turned out to be my "WHOOPS"
Physically, I didn't feel anything for two weeks until the scar had scabbed and started to itch.
Emotionally, pretty dull and since then I've had a slightly different view on cutting.
This should never be attempted.
I will admit, it was a good sensation, but it's sad it took this to make me feel alive.

Leslie-Elizabeth In reply to ARTnoob [2009-11-10 01:39:48 +0000 UTC]

Oops... I'll say...
Who did you manage to get to take you to the hospital? I remember having to get stitches once from a self injury cut and it really freaked me out, mostly because it meant I had to come out about it with someone so they could take me to the doc... I can tell you; that was a one hell of an awkward trip to the ER.
Do you have any pictures of the scar? I'd be really curious to see what it looks like now...

ARTnoob In reply to Leslie-Elizabeth [2009-11-17 07:11:24 +0000 UTC]

Ummm, I'm schizophrenic, so after I did it, and got to the freaked out stage, I called 911.
Hooray for ambulance ride 9 of 11.

Leslie-Elizabeth In reply to ARTnoob [2009-11-17 07:15:49 +0000 UTC]

Good call. Sounds like an interesting trip to the hospital. I hate going to the hospital for self injury because everyone looks at you like you're crazy and then they have to ask all these questions that really aren't the kind of questions you feel like answering...

ARTnoob In reply to Leslie-Elizabeth [2009-11-18 01:38:40 +0000 UTC]

It's okay.
They put me on a morphine drip as soon as the paramedic got into the bathroom where I had been bleeding out, slowly I might add.
I was passed out for 3 hours and came to, watching the doctor sticking a little metal probe in the wound and seein' my fingers twitch.

Leslie-Elizabeth In reply to ARTnoob [2009-11-18 15:56:16 +0000 UTC]

That's definitely an interesting time to wake up! lol
So what was the damage? Did you cut through the tendons?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ARTnoob In reply to Leslie-Elizabeth [2009-11-20 01:13:47 +0000 UTC]

Well, let's see.
All major tendons were at least 75% severed, 2 major arteries, one vein, and made little notches in my wrist bones.
After 4 months, one reconstructive surgery, and 2 plastic surgeries later, I had use of my hand... Had to relearn how to use it, but at least I still have it.

P.S.: Still not a good idea to try for the same effect though, lol.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Leslie-Elizabeth In reply to ARTnoob [2009-11-20 20:10:53 +0000 UTC]

Yikes, you must have been pretty upset to manage that kind of damage! What upset you so much that you applied that amount of pressure to the knife?
I'm glad you gained back the use of your hand.
Do you have any pictures of the scars now? I'd be really interested in what it looks like now...

ARTnoob In reply to Leslie-Elizabeth [2009-11-20 22:18:17 +0000 UTC]

I don't have any recent photos, no, and it looks like light tan train tracks.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Leslie-Elizabeth In reply to ARTnoob [2009-11-21 00:29:10 +0000 UTC]

It sounds like very little evidence for something that caused so much damage. When did this happen?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ARTnoob In reply to Leslie-Elizabeth [2009-11-22 03:02:28 +0000 UTC]

Umm...Beginning of '06.
And yeah, I heal fast-ish.
Proven by the fact you can't see the other ones either.

Leslie-Elizabeth In reply to ARTnoob [2009-11-22 05:15:32 +0000 UTC]

Haha, well you're lucky then. I got stitches once and I asked the doctor if the stitches would leave a scar, she said, "They shouldn't... but I think you scar easily..." I can still see every mark from the stitches clearly... lol.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ARTnoob In reply to Leslie-Elizabeth [2009-11-22 05:27:34 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, well, like I said, I have train tracks.
The stitches left marks, but they were in for 3 weeks and were holding a one inch slit together.
lol

Leslie-Elizabeth In reply to ARTnoob [2009-11-22 19:49:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, mine were only in for a week. Didn't you have to have stitches underneath the skin too? Like for the tendons and such; or did they do that after you had healed a bit more?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ARTnoob In reply to Leslie-Elizabeth [2009-11-22 20:30:33 +0000 UTC]

Well... They had stitched up all of the tendons in an ER surgery situation as soon as I got in...
The nerves had to wait a week for sugery, which are now 50% manmade, and then like two weeks for the plastic surgery to make it look presentable.

Leslie-Elizabeth In reply to ARTnoob [2009-11-23 22:52:52 +0000 UTC]

Yikes, how long did it take for you to learn how to use your hand again? Or could you use it again the same way afterwards?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ARTnoob In reply to Leslie-Elizabeth [2009-11-24 00:19:00 +0000 UTC]

Umm, it's not the same as it used to be.
I had very basic function, like squeeze was about it for a few weeks.
I couldn't lift anything, and I mean anything.
It took nearly a year to be able to use it almost normally.
Imagine your hand falling asleep, and as you get feeling to it, you know the OUCH/TINGLY feeling, that's what I feel with my hand.
My thumb is lost, I'd say 10% feeling remains, and thats on the top of it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Leslie-Elizabeth In reply to ARTnoob [2009-11-25 00:07:33 +0000 UTC]

I guess that's from severing the nerve endings, right?
Does it effect you a lot? Can you move it without the feeling, or do the muscles in your thumb only work 10% too?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ARTnoob In reply to Leslie-Elizabeth [2009-11-26 03:22:39 +0000 UTC]

The muscles respond normally, and they managed to save alot of it.
My thumb just has no sense of feeling except the smallest amount of pressure.
Like I said, tingly painful feeling.
That's it.

Which isn't good.

Quite literally...
