Horrible title - I never actually saw that movie (Django Unchained) but I'm always worried people think that's what he's named after. But no! He's named after Django Reinhardt, a French Gypsy jazz musician who's considered one of the best musicians of the 20th century and is hugely influential even to artists today. Give him a listen!

Django's adopted family's heritage is very loosely based of Gypsies, a sort of fictional maritime version of them... That plays into a lot of their beliefs about "ocean touched" and how Django gets tricked and changed into his true form for the first time. This pic is him bound after that. I need a name for the old woman (she's the fortune teller at the circus) and her son who capture poor Django. Maisy and her peeps eventually find and free him though, so it's all good. I REALLY need a name for my fake Gypsy race too - I don't want to just call them Gypsies because they are NOT really Romani. UGH
