Description
Here's a piece that I really enjoyed doing, an all-girl cast for the Wizard of Oz! I played around a bit with some of he textures, as I tried to give each girl a slightly different feel. For the "Tin-Girl", I posed her very stiff, because she doesn't have the same range of motion as the others, so she's not really bendy. She's also got really straight hair, and a little heart tattoo. I gave her dress a bit of a sheen to it too!
Scarecrow's got some really ragged clothes, and she's got some hay coming out of her gloves.
Toto in the basket is really cute!
Dorothy's dress is somewhat checkered, and of course bright red shoes and red bows in her hair! I gave her a pretty short & sexy skirt.
With the cowardly Lion, I was originally going to color her costume red, but decided against it for two reasons...she'd look like a Christmas elf, and the color would pop out and drown out everything else.
This was drawn entirely with a blue pencil crayon, with a deep red for the added color effects, all on bristol board. This piece is also currently getting the color treatment from Jaysin! I can't wait to see it!

All in all this is a fun and cute picture you created. I like the general feeling you have here.
Β
Some brief notes and observations...
Β
I'm glad you didn't give the Tin-Girl a case of 'Madonna bra' for her outfit, even if such a cone-like structure would have suited her design it would have been over-the-top.Β
Β
You might have considered giving the Scarecrow rougher-looking hair, something similar toΒ a haystack-like mess. Or maybe just pieces of hay sticking out of a well-tousled mass.
Β
The only thing that I could see for the Lion would be to have given her a very shaggy boa draped around her shoulders. It would have implied the lion's mane even more. Still the general cat-girl look is cute and lends well to the fun feeling of the image.

Hahaha, we're doing this play at school, and I'm the Tin-Girl. But in the script it says 'man'. So whenever someone gets it wrong I grumble, "I'm a girl..." But I digress. Nice picture!

Very nice, I love pencil although I'm not too big on the red, it does pop and adds to the overall feel.

Extremely cute and very well done. Normally when I come across something like this I have the temptation to ask if I might be allowed to color it, but I see that you will already have a colorized version done.

The Tin Girl reminds me of 4 Grade Kalidascope. We got to reinact a scene from the Wizard of Oz. There where more girls than boys so I got to play the Tin "Man"

Really cute and I like the poses and the liveliness of the characters. Nice touches of the super straight hair on the tin girl and the cute bows in Dorothy's hair. Toto is adorable. Only one thing that I would have changed is that in the book, Dorothy's shoes are silver, it has symbolism behind some economic American history. Not many people know that, though.

You don't normally do multiple character interaction except, of course, in your comic strip work. I can see how this type of sketch would not only be four times the work but four times the risk (if, for some reason, one character just isn't working and is dragging the other ones down). Even so, from your description of the piece you obviously enjoyed the challenge of building their individual character traits to set them apart. By all means consider doing more multiple primary character work. Both this and the Jingle Belle & Polly Comic are great examples for interacting expressions and body language.
