In my final render which includes a character standing in the foreground, it made sense to have the hatch open. I thought the red seat really "popped" too, giving some contrast to the scene. Often, when using models of cars, spacecraft, etc., I'll click around on the model with the parameters tab open and am pleasantly surprised to see what controls show up.
