Description
Thought I'd give coloring my little Hummingbird Wivern a try today. Still needs a background...I know I promised more Dwarves, but my muse doesn't seem to want to do those yet. They will come later, I promise!
11 x 14 colored pencil on 140 lb. Strathmore Mixed Media paper...
Thanks for your faves and comments, they are always welcome!

Oh, this is so pretty! I love those colors together...the purple and green and blue.
I use those a lot in my home decor.

Holy moly!
The colour pallate you chose is beautiful. It all ties in together so beautifully.
It makes it stand out, and in a good way!

LOL! Thanks Kaila! He was fun to color. I kinda kept adding things as I went. If you look back at the lineart I submitted a couple of days ago you can see he wasn't quite so detailed. Now I need to figure out an appropriate background. I'm thinking a few flowers, and maybe some subdued colors...not sure yet. I don't want to take away from his fancy feathers.

Subdued colours definitely sound like the right route to go. As for what, I couldn't even bounce different ideas off of you other than what you said haha. Too transfixed on the beautiful wings!

I must sleep on this...I have a bit of a headache at the moment. I should probably go to bed. Can't think right now. Have a nice evening! Good night!

Thank you very much! I hope so too.
He's actually a little dragon, a wyvern... a dragon that only has wings and hind legs, no front legs. Like a bird I guess.

You're welcome. That's cool that it's a dragon, I was fooled by its size on the paper (how small it was made me assume it was a bird) how stupid of me!

Oh wow! I love how vibrant the coloring is in this picture! You must be using Prismacolors, I have never seen any other pencils that convey such brightness (except for faber-castells).
Did you pick the colors out beforehand, or did you already have a palette?

Thank you! Actually most of these were Laurentiens and Laurentien Studio. Plus a few by Koh-i-Noor, and Derwent.
I sort of had a color palette in mind when I started, but I sort of just winged it on the design.
