Penned in, using a 0.5mm rotring rapidograph pen.

Thank you And thanks for the feedback - I don't often see the depth that others see, which is a result of working so closely on the piece

It wasn't deliberate! I can't make up my mind which way this should be displayed, I guess that's up to the viewer, and I like it all directions!
Thank you so much for the comments, I'm glad you like it ... I love playing with depth and shadow and light ... it's fun! Though I often can't see how it works until I stand back from it, or shrink the image down on the puter screen ... from a distance you don't see the imperfections you see when your nose is getting ink on it from being so close to the paper!

Thank you
How did I do it? Well the first step was to do the watercolour wash for the background. Then, this time, I inked in the 'foundation' pattern. Then I drew on my previous observations of patterns and textures to fill in or create fill-ins for the sections, adding sections as I needed to. I like the high contrast of black and white on the background which seems to heighten the 3D effects. I work on one section at a time, letting instinct guide me as to what is needed in that space.
Does that help?

It's not hard work ... if it was hard work I'd not do it! Perhaps complicated, or intricate ... which is fascinating in it's own way
