Hmm, well, that might be an unfair question for me to answer due to the fact that I have actually played FF12 or any of the FF13 games. However, maybe the fact that even though I own said games, but haven't bothered playing them says something in and of itself.

It used to be, when a FF game would get released, I'd be really pumped up about it and play it as soon as I could. However, that kind of stopped after FF X-2 (which I liked btw). I guess part of it might be that I'm just playing a lot less videogames in general. However, it's also definitely true that the FF games that I mentioned didn't make me want to sit down and get started playing them like a new Persona game would.

I remember back when FF7 came out, I had it on pre-order at KB-toys (do they even still exist?) and was standing in the mall outside the metal grated shutters, staring at the employees, and waiting to get in.

I remember back when the demo of FF8 was released, I played through the Japanese version at an anime/hobby store with a translation. Then when it came out in English, I played it even more.

I actually really hate FF9. It and FF2 (Japanese 2 not 4) are kind of aberrations, IMO. I don't see how they can have so many characters in FF9 and I hate them all. I just dislike everything about FF2.

FFX was something that I was excited about. Great graphics, good characters, and an interesting story. I liked the campy style and fun nature of FFX-2 a lot. Plus, it was easy to play since it was arranged into missions.

After that though, my interest just seemed to decline. I drifted more towards the SMT series. Although, I had played that series some before (Persona 2: EP) and enjoyed it. I'm not really sure why. Maybe it's the themes or the atmosphere. Maybe it's the really interesting style. IDK, but whatever the reason. It's kind of where I am right now. Although, I've been on a videogame hiatus for about 6 months now for various reasons.

I share the same views on some of the points you have raised. Personally I have finished only 7, 10 and 13. I couldn't get into 8, 9 and 12. 11 is a completely different story. To get anything done you had to dedicate yourself a reasonable timeslot for the day or week - and it came to a point where I just can't do that.

The series which had sequels (i.e 10 and 13) I thought was OK, though I feel the continuity of the stories was hacked up a bit.

In general my interest in gaming is declining, I no longer have the same hype I did years back. But rather than blaming on the game makers, I'd simply go by the reason that I'm just getting older : )

Hmm, yeah, I think part of it is that, as I get older, I'm not as into gaming as I was before. Although there are still a few games that get me excited when I hear about them. The new Cyberpunk 2077 game is top on my list. I love cyberpunk stuff, and so far it looks like it should be amazing.
