Description
Join Africa-comic group!Okay, this picture has been roaming the internetz for a while, I drew it a couple weeks ago (as you can see from my signature, still indicating March '13) and uploaded it on Facebook first, but I liked it and thought I'd upload it here, too
When I submitted the test page for Africa I received loads of useful pieces of advice, one in particular, which many of you suggested, was to make Africa and Chui more different, because they looked too much alike.
Well, I've been working on that ever since. Can you tell Africa and Chui apart in this picture?
Please be frank, I don't get offended if you say you don't! XD It's very important for me that readers manage to distinguish characters, especially if the two main characters are so similar.
I also added a like of rounded spots on Africa's pelt, since I received the suggestion to vary her spot pattern a bit. How do you like it? ^_^
Once again, thank you SO much for your constant support and critique! It helps me a lot
And once again... again XD
Africa and Chui are LEOPARDS. Not Cheetahs. Not Jaguars.
I know that cheetahs aren't this bulky. Because these two AREN'T cheetahs! XD

I can deffinatly tell the duffrence. I like how Africa's features are a bit more rounded and Chui's is more sharp. (Like his attitude lol) You did well with male and female diffrences. Males are bigger and i can see that in this picture. I like how you made chui's arm hair (?) its sharp unlike most leopards so it makes him stand out, but in a good way! I love Africa's anatomy, she is sleek looking but at the same time tough. Many people say,"She should look more 'girly' " But real leopards arnt girly they are muscular and strong and ready to fight off enemys so i think she is fine the way she is. I like how diffrent there spots are, i mean no leopard print is the same right? Lastly i love this piece and can tell the diffrence between them. Also, i can tell they are leopards not cheetahs, its preety easy to tell if you know your big cats and anatomy like you do. Lastly I might change Africa's face expression into a snarl for this picture but that has nothing to really do with anatomy. Everything else looks great to me. (I LOVE CHUI'S FACE.) XD

Oh my oh my, thank you SO much for this epic critique
I'm really happy you like the picture and that you see the difference between the characters
And you're right, leopards aren't girly or slender in real life, even females are muscular
Oh thanks for that suggestion too! <3

I know. That annoys me when they are like, "They aren't feminine enough." Last time I checked female leopards don't have long eye lashes and pretty faces.... sometimes you cant tell the difference between males and female leopards in RL

That's true, males and females only differ by size, and it's not true that females are leaner/less muscular.

Okay, here goes my first critique. :3
To start off, I really like the designs. It's easy to tell apart who is who. Africa is a lot rounder while Chui's edges are pointed, which is a nice touch. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="

One detail is Africa's outstretched leg. Her paw looks a bit strage, as if it should be a bit more to the right. And (could just be me though) Africa's hind leg seems very tiny compared to her body. But that's the only thing that bugs me. Overall, a great picture from a difficult angle. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="

Aww thank you a lot for this critique!
I'm really happy that you like their designs and that you can recognize their species
Oh yes you're right about that leg, it looks awkward I'll need to work on this kind of poses more if I am to make a whole comic about these cats
Truly thank you so much! <3

Perspective is a tricky thing.

Great Job!
Buttt..... I can definitely tell that Chui is a guy because he is bulky which is good but I think you should make Africa look a bit more...lady-like? Cuz I mean...She IS a girl right? Right??! ;A;
They're cheetahs also correct? So they should be a bit more..leaner? More stream-lined?
NO OFFENSE, their designs are SUPERB, don't get me wrong...but maybe a bit more thinner and less bulky? Lions would probably be that big, that rotund (?) but I think cheetahs are always going to look thinner and more...flat.
Just my opinion, 'tis all e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="
(Big Grin)"/>
The coloring is beautiful and I love their different tail ends! Such a brilliantly unique twist! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="

" title="Heart"/>
e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h⦠" width="15" height="13" alt="
" title="Heart"/>
But that red line irks me... :/ It's the color... maybe go for a more treacle or more orangey-yellow tone? I'm just being picky that's all. But then again, that does make a difference if you want to improve and all that.
Paws are all tip top (I can't draw them very well ;A; ) but Africa's outstretched leg, I think, needs to be slightly revised?
On the other hand, this IS just to help viewers distinguish characters and to get the feel for the design so I shouldn't be so picky xD
AND (will this ever end?!) as you do know, cheetahs are built for speed and like I mentioned early should be more stream-lined. So possibly consider narrowing the hip bones a bit?
Anatomy is lovely, as are the lines. Coloring is blended fantastically and makes the piece stand out and appear 3D and life like. I wish I could be this good! But, alas, I probably never will ^^
Overall, a totally spiffing piece of work! Be proud and keep the good work up!

Aww thanks so much for this epic critique! <3
I'll make sure that Africa looks more feminine XD
Ah, no, they are both African leopards, not cheetahs, and they are naturally rather muscular and bulky But thanks for the suggestion about cheetahs, I'll keep that in mind to make my cheetah character
(yes there's going to be a cheetah too <3)
Hoho, no worries about being picky XD You're right about that leg, it's definitely off
Truly thank you SO much for taking your time to critique, I appreciate it! <3

People are weird. They keep mistaking two CLEAR leopards for being misdesigned cheetahs. wtf? xP
I guess people might be mistaking them for cheetahs because of their long tails. XD
People are still weird though.

I think not everyone knows the difference between a leopard and a cheetah, just like not everyone knows the difference between a crocodile and an alligator XD

ZoraTheTwilightDrake In reply to ARVEN92 [2019-12-04 21:37:48 +0000 UTC]
Well, main difference between crocs and gators is, crocs mostly live in Africa, while gators live in North America. Caimans live in South America and gavials live in India.
Dunno what kind live in Australia though, if they're crocs or gators... Maybe gators.
That's geographical though.
Biological differences between crocodiles and alligators is that crocs have teeth sticking out both in the top and the bottom while gators only have teeth sticking out from the top. Also, gators have wider heads than crocs. Though crocs tend to be bigger than gators, I think.
Caimans are smaller than both, I think, at least the dwarf and "glasses" caiman? (brillekaiman in danish) are.
Interestingly, jaguars hunt caimans. Not sure if leopards hunt crocodiles, think I've seen a video of a leopard playing pull the prey with a croc (fighting over an antelope) though.
Sorry to reply to such an old comment lol I was just looking through some old stuff, your old stuff lol, and I found the comments and I wanted to talk animals XD

While jaguars and leopards do look a lot alike, main difference between them is that jaguars have spots inside the rosettes. Also their rosettes tend to be larger and with thicker black lines than leopards'. They also have much thicker heads than leopards.
Dunno if you already know this BUT I CAN'T HELP MYSELF lol

I don't know But so many, TOO many people mistake leopards for cheetahs. I can understand mistaking them for jaguars, Out of the context of where they live (Africa/Asia vs America), it really is pretty tricky to tell a leopard from a jaguar. But leopards and cheetahs are entirely different
