you probably associate the two together becouse they sound alike. if you say tobi alot and really fast, you say "obito" and if you say obito alot and realy fast, you say "Tobi." plus, there's the "obitobi hypothisis," when people think obito is tobi, even though tobi is pretty much a teenager and if obito were still alive he'd be the same age as kakashi.
