Very interesting, particulary the beak. Could be a sort of big herbivore.

Possible. Albeit I wasn't thinking about that too much. It probably would need some big stuff because usually herbivorous birds tend to have small beaks as far as I know unless it needs to be big like with nutcracking finches and the like. Maybe this one still feeds in the water like ducks today do and therefore requires a beak like that.

Although Dromornis and Gastonis were herbivores and had great beaks. Maybe could consume large amounts of grasses or aquatic plants...

Gastornis was a herbivore? I thought it was considered carnivorous.

Yes, the beak is not sharp and with a hook end like in terror birds, and the claws are not shape either. lso the isotopic analysis shows traces of being an herbivore: www.nationalgeographic.com/sci…

The claws were one thing as these birds did not seem to use them for holding prey, however the beak was always more of a tell for me. But apparently it was mostly herbivorous. Makes me wonder how big the fruits were that it ate as usually beaks are only as big as they need to be (which why geese have such small ones), so that bird most have crushed some pretty big fruits back then.

Maybe something akin to coconuts. In any case surely a large beak offers a wide option of plants to eat (and why not, some carrion).
