It was SEGA that insisted that the game would be immediately required to be ready for the end of 2006. Sonic Team couldn’t spend the remaining months of development on quality control, and were forced to ignore bug testing reports.

If only they worked on it at least a few years earlier, then the game would've been great.

However, had it not been released the way it was, we wouldn’t have two Unity projects being made by two completely different teams.
