Thoughts about the Character:

I thought Vermillion would be a very powerful knight, hardened by the unfortunate turns of life. He would be the high commander of the royal army and he doesn't allow any disrespect toward the king nor slacking knights. I thought that he would have been knighted quite young because he was very talented but he was never given more than the lowest rank, he had to fight in several battles being commanded by a useless noble bunch who didn't had neither guts nor brains and many died because of bad timed orders. Whenever Vermillion got back to training at the castle, he would mumble almost impossible to hear complains about the superiors and the lack of fiber in the other knights, but even back then, some few knights were also very hard-working. One of them would always like to talk with Vermillion about what was his opinion on the knight's rank system and such, and Vermillion would never spare words to criticize it, but he wasn't all complains, Vermillion saw what was wrong with that system and what was right, he would always tell his friend how he would like to see improvement, specially with the knight's training, because a poor trained soldier is bond to fall in battle and he felt it was the commander who failed the family and not the knight.
Little did Vermillion knew that, his best friend was the bastard child of the king, he was knighted so his father would keep a close eye on him and seeing as his son had matured and turned into a great man he decided to retire and make his son the next king, Vermillion didn't understood when the young king called him to the throne room, and he sure was surprised to see his best friend all dressed up as royalty (but he was happy to know his new king was someone trusted who had the personality to listen to others). The new king made Vermillion the High Commander of the Knights, he would be above everyone else and would also be the King's personal retainer, it was a lot to swallow in one go but Vermillion saw the opportunity to change everything that was wrong on their ranks, he couldn't help but smile at the kings proposal.
After that, some say the knighthood turned into hell, Vermillion would come up with a training regiment so hard that some people even quit the knights in the first week! But for the ones who really aspired to be great knight, their passion for their duty and king was born anew as they trained hard and developed their skills, they started to be promoted and the ones in charge wasn't the useless nobles anymore, but trained knights who knew the weight of their decisions in the lives of their squadrons.
