Description This is the result of a tutorial by Lesley Harrison from her book "Painting Animals That Touch The Heart". I love the textures you can create by using pastels and would like to learn how to use them better. Original image belongs to Lesley Harrison.

I have a copy of that book... I got it a few days ago. I haven't had time to try anything in it yet, though, and I really want to... you did a fantastic job. ^^ (The only thing is, the color scheme seems a bit dull. I think it might have been better if there'd been a greater contrast between the paw and the background.)

I MUST get this book.. @.@ I wanna learn pastels so badly. You can do such wonderful things with them too.

Did you use regular stick pastels or pastel pencils?

Both. I have a small set of hard edged sticks and the derwent brand pencils which are really crap. I can't sharpen them. I have to use a knife, but I'm going to try sandpaper to make a point.

I find it hard to use the sticks. They're too large and you can't get a fine point with them. Hehe, I'll make a note not to get the derwent kind. xD I should ask ~ailah what kind she uses.. Hope your sandpaper trick works!
