Description "People are simply ants to him, something either beneath his notice or the subject of his contempt. And strangely...I find myself thinking that perhaps we are not so underserving...has man not overstepped his boundaries, time and time again, simply for the sake of money, power and the blood of our enemies?"
-Admiral Tachibana, curtesy of Matt Frank

The monster of all monsters, Gojirasaurus is an irradiated behemoth, a creature who owes its existance to the foolish hands of man. Born a relic on a lost island, forged in the heart of a nuclear blast, and tempered in the cold waters of Japan, Gojirasaurus, also known as "Gojira" or "Godzilla" is quite possibly the most powerful beast on the planet. There have been a total of four Gojirasaurs recorded, the first appearing off Odo Island in 1954.
Gojira is a creature with mysterious motives. It is often drawn to sources of energy, and will seek out and destroy anything carrying radioactive material. It is thought to subsist on fish, whales, and other deep water creatures, as well as the flesh of other mutations it kills. If judged by sheer strength and size alone, it would be a formidable adversary, but it carries more dangerous weapons then teeth or claws.
Its control over the radioactive forces in its body has given it the power to breath a superheated stream of napalm capable of wiping whole city blocks from the face of the earth. Irradiated cells in its body give it a formidable healing factor unequalled in modern biology. And, in a lethal irony, the gojiran emits a continous flow of radioactivity, contaminating anywhere it walks.
Due to its extreme ferocity and aggresion, Gojira's appearance is often followed by an immediate evacuation of nearby areas as the military seeks to drive the creature away. But it is a temperary measure at best, and Japan lives in fear of the massive predator in its waters.

Love this! Considering that there is a real (so far fragmentary) Gojirasaurus from the Triassic Era, this is a great rendition of its Gojiran evolution.

But Zilla was better in the animated series. So I'm kinda mixed with Zilla here.

Even though I saw the movie, in this pic Godzillasaurus looks like Zilla.

Cool! I'd prefer more traditional-looking back plates, but overall I like. I'd be perfectly happy if Legendary's Godzilla looked like this. ^_^

The genus name may be taken by that real-world meta-coelurosaur, but this beast still has a killer species moniker...and its various G'98-inspired attributes (bluish triangular dorsals, theropod-digits & lipless crocodilian teeth) mesh with that solidly-proportioned torso & compact skull for one above-average "Dino-Goji."

Very nice. I especially have to commend you on the arms, making the placement on them look like they would on a dinosaurs but still being the right shape and size as Godzilla's are traditionally. Excellently done! I also love the look of the feet. Great job!

DinoHunter2 [2009-01-28 16:40:25 +0000 UTC]

Cool! I like how you kept his sense of bulk even though he has a horizontal stance. Most saurian Godzillas wind up looking very lightly built, and it winds up feeling more like a Gojira-ish version of Zilla rather than a revamped Godzilla. I also like the general proportions a lot, it reminds me of Heisei Goji, who's always been one of my favorite incarnations of him. Nice.

Ashere In reply to DinoHunter2 [2009-01-29 02:19:57 +0000 UTC]

Bulk is hard to convey with the more dinosaurian versions, so instead of working up from a dinosaurian version, I played around with coming from a golem-ish version. And, I'm happy to say it worked.

Ashere In reply to EWilloughby [2008-10-27 16:25:57 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I decided my original design kind of sucked, so I redid it. The vestigial forth finger is a little shout out the gojirasaurus proper, the uber-ceolophysid that kenneth Carpenter named. He wrote a paper on hhow godzilla would look in real life, and this version ended up looking rather like his hypothetical version. I need to hunt that thing down.

Definatly what I was going for. I think Zilla gets a bad and unfair rap.

ACdraw In reply to Ashere [2008-02-23 03:03:13 +0000 UTC]

DEFINITELY. I mean sure, the movie wasn't the best 'Godzilla' movie made. But Zilla itself was an awesome creature.

Your realise that the traditional kaiju Godzilla is the irradiated form of a Godzillasaurus not a Gojirasaurus, which is in fact a real dinosaur that did exist? Otherwise nice drawing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ashere In reply to post-sapient [2007-11-19 22:11:49 +0000 UTC]

You are right, but not in the way you think. Godzillasaurus is real, but was named quite recently after godzilla, whose true name in japanese is gojira.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

post-sapient In reply to Ashere [2007-11-19 22:38:15 +0000 UTC]

No, thats actually wrong. The real dinosaurs name is Gojirasaurus ( [link] ). Godzillasaurus is the fictional dinosaur from which spawned Godzilla. And yes I did know that Godzilla's Japanese name is Gojira.
