That's the lesson Tsuga learned that day with all too painful of a sting not only at his realization, but the bite of the Cryo's claws and teeth tearing at him hungrily. He'd gone off alone and unprepared, lost and without backup, and now he was in a predicament he couldn't say he had the greatest of hopes of escaping. He'd tried outrunning them as they leapt and chomped at his heels, but the adolescent Styraco's lungs were soon burning and he found his pursuers quickly catching up. Stomach in knots, he found there was no choice but to stand his ground. It wasn't easy, and he figured he'd be sporting a myriad of new battle scars should he make it out the other side of this encounter. But there was no other option.
Horns like daggers flashed in the sharp illumination of the lightning a few miles away, thunder the perfect musical accompaniment for the tense battle that was taking place as he dealt some deadly blows with his sides heaving from the effort. The pack only began to thin out after what felt like a years worth of struggles and painful clawmarks. Of course it wasn't so easy, even as they began to lose their nerve for a face to face confrontation, one among them was bold enough to hurl herself head-on into him, determined the finish the weakened herbivore and feast. Tsuga swung his head wildly, but she was well-versed in combat and narrowly avoided each strike he made with his horns.
Hope was dwindling and the situation looked bleak, for the first time in his young life Tsuga wasn't certain if he'd live long enough to see old age.

Tsuga's final aging quest, and his second piece featuring an ominous sky lit up by lightning, perhaps this will be a theme in his life? Encounters with random carnivores seems to be another.
