Description

During the collapse of the Qing Dynasty and later on Civil War, the Tibetan cultural area was able to unify together with British backing. In 1920, the 13th Dalai Lama officially proclaimed the formation of the Himalayan Union. The nascent state immediately had its territorial claims threaten by its neighbor to the north, culminating in the Kokonor War, which was fought over disputed territories in what is now the state of Amdo. Emerging largely victorious, the Himalayan Union has now been able to assert itself as a major power player in the turbulent region of China. The country has strong diplomatic ties to the British Raj and their Mongol compatriots in the north; backing the latter in their war over Suiyuan.
