Yes, I am HUGE fan of Silverwing. In fact, Silverwing is my life. You can blaim this amazing book for my love of bats, and the Silverwing series website for renewing my Silverwing obsession. LOVE THEM.I read the book over three years ago, so I can hardly remember a lot of it, but it is still so, so good...
So, after discovering the official website that was made for the animated series (my sister and I almost pooped our pants a year and a half ago when we heard it was coming out), I got crazy obsessed with it again and decided to make my own designs of the characters. However cool and stylized the cartoon's versions of them are, they are, well, incorrect.
Okay, so I spent like over two hours one night doing research on the silver haired bat and red bat to get Shade's and Marina's designs as accurate as possible. This little bugger took me MONTHS, mainly because I was so stumped with the colour scheme. Then I couldn't force myself to work on it, until today when I got the best plan ever to bring it to school so when I have my daily crazy drawing fit I'd work on it happily. And ta dahh! All finished!
In short, I am very proud of my designs and it took me a long time. (:
Marina's coming eventually! I have it all inked, just need to figure out how to get the fur...

Edit: Oh yeah, the little bats hanging from the branch are Shade and Chinook. Shade's a runt, so I was just trying to show the size difference to an average bat of the same species. XP

I love his face! It's so cute and adorable! It makes it even more heartbreaking to think of all the things this poor bat has to go through. I love that little Chinook thing in the corner. XD So silly. Chinook made me so mad sometimes, but the way it's conveyed is adorable! It's really hard to find good Silverwing fanart sometimes.

Thanks a lot! He probably felt really good about him afterwords though, since he was so small since birth. :3 I didn't like Chinook at all either! I should really do some new Silverywing stuff - these are so old, and it's still one of my fave novels!

I'd really like to see them! They are my favorite books right now, but I just read them for the first time this week after watching the TV show for the first time the week before. I have never read a book in the point of view of an animal and liked it until these books and now I'm obsessed.

They are very good indeed! Kenneth Oppels other books are really good too, though only Silverwing series (plus Darkwing) is from an animal's point of view. It is really different! Also Raven Quest by Shanon Stewart is a good one if you're looking for more animal books.

Well, I thought about looking up his other books before reading Darkwing, which was quite a bit more dull to me... Not sure why... I guess it's just not that eventful and I didn't really connect with any of the characters that well. I'll check out Raven Quest and see if it's something I'm interested in.

You didn't like Darkwing?! It's definitely a different mood and type of story. Did you read the Airborn series? Those are by far my fave after Silverwing. They're really suspenseful and the characters are yummy. But cool! I hope you like it if you decide to read it.

Ah! This is great! I seriously cannot tell you how sick am I of seeing people copy the tv series style and not develop there own when drawing the silverwing characters. It's so limited! I'm glade you've taken this root, great job! And I would LOVE to see your take on Griffin, their newborn in Firewing!

I wish the animation stayed true to the book about being ACCURATE on how the bats looked.. I guess they had to go a bit out of it, since the bats 'sight' world was in black and white... but still, they looked nothing to how I felt the characters 'should' look as they were in the book. How you've drawn Shade here is just spot on though! Charming and adorable!

Yeah, the Sivlerwing books are my favorite series (even though there's only four books....and I still haven't gotten Darkwing yet. lol) I like how you drew Shade realisticaly instead of with the cartoon's style. Yeah, it's a pretty cool style.....but it's refreshing to see someone draw fanart in their own style

I haven't seen any of the cartoon, but I really want to. >( It sucks living in America. I think the anthropomorphic designs for the characters are kinda creepy.. and that Goth and throbb are too fat. >.>

i just finfihes silverwing and i am SO GLAD i found this before, because i started looking up bats and all i could find were the bulldog-nosed bats some poeple draw and the cotton-ball-with-a-snout pipistrelle types, and both were hard to picture when imagining the scens from the book. So I pictured your design instead and it was much, much better. Of course, afterwards I looked up silver haired bat since you mentioned it and that worked too. Anywya, wonderful design.
